Ahmed Nur, the 2027 five-star power forward who received a scholarship offer from Syracuse basketball last month, expects to take an official visit to the Orange at some point, Inside the Loud House has learned.
A date for his trip to the Hill hasn't been finalized. The 6-foot-10 Nur, one of the fastest-rising prospects in the high school senior class, has officially visited Purdue and unofficially visited Minnesota.
Other suitors that are in the mix for the top-25 national prospect include Ole Miss, Washington, Alabama, Cincinnati, Kansas, Minnesota, SMU and Texas, among others. Nur is also likely to cut his list of contenders in the coming months. Assuming that the 'Cuse lands an official visit from him, I'd anticipate that the Orange would make his list cut.
Nur's offer sheet and 2027 national rankings have blown up, fueled in part by him winning the MVP award last month at the annual NBPA Top 100 Camp in Rock Hill, S.C. The prestigious showcase took place during a live period, with the Syracuse basketball staff, led by first-year head coach Gerry McNamara, on hand to watch recruits, including Nur, at the NBPA Top 100 Camp.
Syracuse basketball will soon start to have official visitors on campus.
According to recruiting services, Nur's full offer list includes teams such as BYU, Miami, Rutgers, Kansas, Indiana, Texas, Utah State, Purdue, Florida State, Xavier, Minnesota, UNLV, SMU, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Arizona State, West Virginia, Mississippi State, Washington, San Diego State, Penn State, St. Bonaventure, Charlotte, Wake Forest and Providence.
Last season, Nur was a standout at Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minn. For the 2026-27 season, he has transferred to CIA Bella Vista in Phoenix, which is part of the loaded Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic ("EYBL Scholastic"), a 15-member super conference of sorts.
In 2025-26, CIA Bella Vista went 26-4 overall and was the unanimous No. 1 squad around the country after winning this past April's Chipotle Nationals in Fishers, Ind. In recent weeks, the new Orange staff has offered several prospects who will play for the Bears in 2026-27.
On the AAU circuits, Nur is competing for the 17U team of the Milwaukee-based Power 5 in the Adidas 3SSB league. . This weekend is a live period in grassroots basketball, and the 3SSB circuit is in Bryan, Texas. It would not be a surprise if the 'Cuse coaching staff is in for Nur and other targets in Bryan.
In the current AAU season for Power 5, Nur is averaging 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. On Thursday, he notched 16 points, five rebounds, two steals and one block in a win for Power 5.
McNamara and his assistants have offered or re-offered a bunch of 2027 prospects of late. One of them, four-star point guard J'Lon Lyons out of the Clinton Grace Christian School in Clinton, Md., will take an official visit to Syracuse men's basketball from September 11 to September 13, I've been told.
