Syracuse basketball is out of contention for 2027 four-star shooting guard RJ Moore from the Charlotte, N.C., area.
Per Rivals and other reports, the 6-foot-7, 190-pound Moore has dropped a top six that includes Alabama, Rutgers, Texas Tech, Utah, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest. The Orange not making Moore's top six isn't a surprise.
As Inside the Loud House reported late last month, the new 'Cuse staff under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara is honing in on several key targets in the 2027 cycle. While Moore received a scholarship offer from the Orange in late April, Syracuse basketball coaches are prioritizing several other guards in the high school senior class these days.

Moore attends the Ambassador Christian School in Huntersville, N.C. In the 2025-26 season for Ambassador Christian, per MaxPreps, Moore averaged 18.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 41 percent from the field, 32 percent from beyond the arc and 66 percent from the free-throw line.
On Nike's EYBL circuit this spring and summer, he played for two squads in the 17U division - the Charlotte-based Team United and the Memphis, Tenn.-based Team Thad. Last month, during an EYBL session in Las Vegas amid a live period, scouts at The Circuit named Moore as a breakout performer as he averaged 13.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per contest.
Multiple recruiting services, within the 2027 class, place Moore as a top-50 national prospect. He's also deemed one of the top shooting guards around the country in his cycle.
Who are Syracuse basketball's priority guard targets in the 2027 cycle?
In terms of 2027 guards, the Orange staff is prioritizing five-star Nasir Anderson out of Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and four-star J'Lon Lyons out of the Clinton Grace Christian School in Clinton, Md. Lyons will take an official visit to SU from September 11 to September 13; Syracuse basketball coaches are working to get Anderson on campus for a visit at some point.
Also, keep an eye on 2027 four-star guard Devin Cleveland out of the La Lumiere School in La Porte, Ind. He recently put the Orange in his top seven, and Cleveland plans to visit the 'Cuse before making his college decision.
Additionally, last week, 2027 four-star wing Carson Crawford out of Fleming Island High School in Fleming Island, Fla., included Syracuse basketball in his top five. Crawford is eyeing an official visit to the Orange this fall, Inside the Loud House has reported.
