Jack Donohue, who received a scholarship offer from Syracuse basketball first-year head coach Gerry McNamara and his staff in late June, is eyeing a college decision around mid-August, Inside the Loud House has learned.
The 2027 wing from Albany, N.Y., took an unofficial visit to the Orange program on June 22. I'm told the visit went well. Last summer, McNamara, while still the head coach at Siena, offered Donohue. Since McNamara took over the 'Cuse this past March, he has continued to recruit Donohue hard, along with SU assistant coach Ben Lee, who joined McNamara on the Hill this spring.
Donohue's scholarship offer sheet, beyond Syracuse basketball, includes schools such as Siena (a re-offer from the new Saints staff), Holy Cross, Tennessee Tech, Penn, Albany, Hampton, Bryant and La Salle. He's also garnering interest from college squads such as Villanova, TCU, George Washington and Duquesne, among others.
While things can be fluid in a high school player's recruitment, it does seem that the 'Cuse is in a good spot to potentially land the 6-foot-8, 220-pound Donohue, a young man for whom you have to root; last year, he had to endure open-heart surgery, and seeing him on the court playing a game he loves is heartwarming.
Syracuse basketball is in the mix for 2027 wing Jack Donohue.
Donohue previously played at the Christian Brothers Academy in Albany. In the 2025-26 campaign, he suited up at The Newman School in Boston. Last season, Newman was terrific, sporting a 38–3 record and winning the New England Basketball League ("NEBL") title, the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council ("NEPSAC") Class AAA crown and the national prep championship.
This spring and summer on the Under Armour Association ("UAA") circuit, Donohue is playing for the 17U team of the Jersey Shore, N.J.-based NJ ShoreShots. The ShoreShots, per the UAA Web site, are 6-8 overall.
The team will play this week during the UAA league's season-ending playoffs in Louisville, Ky., amid a live period. Let's see if Orange coaches are in attendance to watch Donohue and other recruits in Louisville.
Donohue, through 14 games for the ShoreShots, is averaging 10.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest while connecting on 37 percent from the field, 33 percent from beyond the arc and 56 percent from the free-throw line.
McNamara and his assistants have ramped up their high school recruiting efforts in recent months, offering scholarships to a range of four-star and five-star prospects in the 2027 and 2028 classes.
Donohue and 2028 three-star power forward Damian Mojica have made trips to Central New York. Mojica, who landed an offer from the 'Cuse on Monday, took an unofficial visit to Syracuse basketball in late June, as Inside the Loud House first reported.
Three 2027 priority targets have also locked in upcoming official visits. They are five-star big man Ahmed Nur (August 28 to August 30), four-star power forward Ian Condon (September 1 to September 2) and four-star point guard J'Lon Lyons (September 11 to September 13).
