Ryan Moesch, the 2026 four-star point guard and Central New York native who was recently granted a release from his signing with Siena, has picked up a scholarship offer from Syracuse basketball and its new head coach, Gerry McNamara, who, up until recently, was the Saints' head coach.
A shoutout to Chris Carlson of Syracuse.com for first reporting this news. Carlson's piece also notes that the 6-foot Moesch could visit the Hill "at some point next week, at least unofficially."
For his article, Carlson spoke with James Cormier, who is the head coach at the Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass. Moesch has competed for Cushing each of the past two seasons. Before that, he was a standout at Chittenango High School in Chittenango, N.Y., which is about 20 miles from Syracuse.
Cormier said in part of Moesch: "He's got a little Gerry to him. He’s 6 feet tall and 170 pounds and long, floppy hair. He doesn’t necessarily look the part. ... (But) whoever you put in front of him he’s better than."
Syracuse basketball, as expected, has offered 2026 4-star PG Ryan Moesch.
When news broke less than a week ago that SU was hiring GMac to replace Adrian Autry as the Orange's head coach, recruiting analysts and industry observers began opining that Moesch, if granted a release by Siena, would likely end up at the 'Cuse.
His release was granted. He holds a Syracuse basketball scholarship offer now. But it's not a certainty that he'll follow McNamara to SU. Moesch played at a high level during the 2025-26 season for Cushing, and Cormier said that his point guard could end up having additional college suitors as a result.
Moesch's agent, Mike Simonetta of the Los Angeles-based Life Sports Agency, said to Syracuse.com that McNamara has forged a strong relationship with his client. Moesch and his family "are going through the due-diligence process and hope to have a decision in the near future," Simonetta added.
The Orange has shown an interest in Moesch in the past, as I've noted in columns. However, I don't think he ever received a scholarship offer from SU. Until now. Moesch is No. 156 nationally in the 2026 class, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.
However, according to analysts and scouts whom I've spoken to about Moesch throughout his recruitment, these experts believe that Moesch is vastly underrated in the high school senior cycle.
One of Moesch's Cushing teammates is 2027 four-star center and top-50 national prospect Theo Edema. The 7-foot Edema officially visited Syracuse basketball last September. Analysts have told me that he's likely to reclassify into the 2026 cycle, and Maryland is the rumored leader for Edema.
In a recent radio interview, McNamara said that the Orange's 2026-27 roster would potentially include an incoming freshman or two. The 'Cuse doesn't have any signed high school seniors, so one could assume that Moesch might end up being one of the team's 2026 signees when all is said and done. Stay tuned.
