The expectation is that new Syracuse basketball head coach Gerry McNamara may end up having some players on his 2026-27 roster who currently suit up for GMac's former school, Siena.

It's not uncommon for a head coach to bring over players from his previous program, and that's likely to be the case with McNamara and the Orange. Earlier this week, he held meetings with members of the 'Cuse 2025-26 roster to get a better feel for retention efforts for next season.

The transfer portal will run from April 7 to April 21. When a head coaching change occurs at a school, a 15-day transfer portal window will also open for five days after the new head coach at that particular program is hired or publicly announced.

Players at college squads whose 2025-26 seasons have ended can announce their intentions to transfer, although they can't enter the portal until April 7. That date is fast approaching, though.

So which Siena players or recruits could end up at Syracuse?

Gavin Doty, sophomore guard
The 6-foot-5, 190-pound Doty, who is from nearby Fulton, N.Y., is expected to enter the portal when it opens, reports have indicated. He has already stated that he plans on playing for McNamara "through my whole career." In 2025-26, he averaged 18.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

Francis Folefac, freshman forward
The 6-foot-7, 245-pound Folefac, who hails from Lanham, Md., in the talent-rich DMV, had a solid freshman stanza for Siena in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference ("MAAC"). He averaged 11.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 blocks per contest. To date, I have not seen reports that Folefac intends to enter the transfer portal.

Ryan Moesch, 2026 four-star point guard
The 6-foot, 170-pound Moesch signed with Siena and GMac last November. He's a top-150 national prospect and Central New York native who competes for the Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass. According to a post on X from national analyst Sam Kayser, Moesch has received his release from Siena to reopen his recruitment, and it's possible that he will end up at SU.

Doty, Folefac and Moesch, I believe, are the three most likely to play for the Orange in 2026-27. Other Siena players to potentially monitor include:
Redshirt sophomore wing Reid Ducharme, who was recruited by Syracuse basketball while he was in high school and intends to enter the transfer portal
•Sophomore forward Tajae Jones, who played his senior prep season at Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y., alongside Orange freshman shooting guard Kiyan Anthony; Jones will enter the portal
