Siena 4-star commit Ryan Moesch, a CNY native, likely to follow GMac to Syracuse

Underrated 2026 four-star point guard Ryan Moesch, who hails from Central New York, signed with Siena last November. That development gave then-Saints head coach Gerry McNamara the program's highest-ranked commit in team history.

Fast-forward to today, and GMac is now the head coach of Syracuse basketball, replacing Adrian Autry. The 6-foot Moesch, a top-150 national prospect in the 2026 class, picked Siena over Providence.

Given that McNamara has left Siena to lead his alma mater, it wouldn't be surprising if Moesch requests a release from his commitment to the Saints; that is often the case when there is a head coaching change.

The chatter from some national observers is that should Moesch request and be granted a release, he would likely follow McNamara to the Orange program. As I noted in another column on Wednesday, the same can be said of Siena star guard Gavin Doty, another local product who plans to enter the transfer portal.

Syracuse basketball has shown an interest in 4-star PG Ryan Moesch in the past.

In February of 2025, I had a piece stating that the Orange coaching staff had been in contact with Moesch. He was not offered a scholarship by the 'Cuse, as far as I can tell.

Moesch had a standout 2023-24 season at Chittenango High School in Chittenango, N.Y., which is about 20 miles from Syracuse. He then moved on to an elite prep-school team, the Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass.

As a senior in 2025-26, Moesch helped lead Cushing to the quarterfinals of the National Prep Championship, and he was named to the prestigious annual event's All-America first team. One of his Cushing teammates is 2027 four-star center Theo Edema, who has officially visited Syracuse basketball and may re-class to the 2026 cycle.

Last summer, playing for the 17U team of the Boston-based Middlesex Magic in the Under Armour Association ("UAA") league, Moesch was a key contributor as the Middlesex Magic finished in third place during the UAA playoffs.

In terms of Siena's 2025-26 roster, besides Doty, another Saints player who I could potentially see transferring to Syracuse basketball is freshman forward Francis Folefac, who was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference ("MAAC") All-Rookie team.

In his first season at Siena, Folefac averaged 11.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 blocks per contest while connecting on 51.5 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc and 74.0 percent from the free-throw line.
