The new Syracuse basketball staff under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara has re-offered a scholarship to 2028 five-star wing Kevin Wheatley Jr., per a recent article from recruiting analyst Jake Weingarten.
This doesn't come as a surprise. The 6-foot-7, 202-pound Wheatley held an offer from the prior 'Cuse staff under then-head coach Adrian Autry, and he also took an unofficial visit to the SU program last December.
Wheatley calls the Orange a "great program." He is one of numerous 2028 prospects who heard from the new Syracuse basketball staff after the contact period for his class opened on June 15. Some of those 2028 players, including Wheatley, have landed an offer or a re-offer from McNamara and his assistants.
So much to admire with 2028 Kevin Wheatley Jr. — caught my eye last month at the NBPA Top 100 Camp and shining in here Vegas — intriguing physical frame, productive on the floor, shoots it well, and an effective defender — 21 points (3-4 3PT), 5 boards, and 3 steals in the win. pic.twitter.com/38EzKZFnZj

Since the 2028 contact period opened in mid-June, Wheatley has scored offers from teams such as Auburn, Georgia Tech, Seton Hall, Utah, Villanova, Sacramento State, Florida State, Creighton, Ole Miss and TCU.
Wheatley, a top-25 national prospect in his class, says that he plans to take visits to some of his suitors after the current AAU season wraps up later this month. Look for Orange coaches to, hopefully, get him on the Hill for another visit at some point.
Syracuse basketball is in pursuit of 2028 five-star wing Kevin Wheatley Jr.
Wheatley, who is from Rahway, N.J., near New York City, played at the Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., last season. He has since transferred to the Masters Academy International in Stow, Mass., a newly formed program led by former Brewster head coach Jason Smith. In the 2026-27 campaign, the Masters Academy International will be a member of the 15-team Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic ("EYBL Scholastic").
In the current AAU season, Wheatley is competing for the 16U team of the Bronx, N.Y.-based PSA Cardinals in Nike’s EYBL league. Three of his PSA Cardinals teammates are garnering interest from the 'Cuse. They are 2028 three-star power forward Damian Mojica, who recently took an unofficial visit to the 'Cuse, 2028 four-star point guard Malik Moore and 2028 guard/wing Kingsley Rogers.
This weekend is a live period in grassroots basketball. The EYBL circuit is in Las Vegas, and multiple Orange coaches are on hand. So far during the live period, the PSA Cardinals are 2-0. Wheatley dropped 21 points in his first game out in Las Vegas, while tallying 11 points and eight rebounds in his second encounter.
When asked about his game, this is what Wheatley said to Weingarten. "Three-level scorer. I knock down the contested and open three. I get to my midrange pull-up well and I attack the rim. Also, I’m a high-energy defender and I rebound."
