The new Syracuse basketball staff under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara has one verbal pledge in its 2027 class, three-star wing Jack Donohue from Albany, N.Y., who attends The Newman School in Boston.
Additionally, at present, Orange coaches are prioritizing three five-star players in the high school senior cycle. They are five-star wing/small forward Moussa Kamissoko, five-star wing/forward Ahmed Nur and five-star point guard Nasir Anderson.
Here's the latest on those three 2027 priority recruits, based on my recent conversations with sources and also some intel from national recruiting analysts and other observers.
Updates on Syracuse basketball's five-star priority targets in the 2027 class.
Moussa Kamissoko
The 6-foot-8, 180-pound Kamissoko, who recently transferred to the powerhouse Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio, began his official visit to the 'Cuse on September 3. I'll get more intel soon on how this visit went.
Late last month, Kamissoko took an unofficial visit to Providence followed by an official visit to Florida State. The word is that his trip to the Seminoles went quite well. An official visit to Virginia slated for this weekend has reportedly been postponed, although Kamissoko still has official visits scheduled to Oklahoma State, BYU, Illinois, UConn, Louisville and Baylor.
Analysts have noted that teams pushing hard for Kamissoko have included the Huskies and the Orange. These days, sources say that FSU and Syracuse have some buzz with Kamissoko. Let's see what unfolds after his trip to Central New York wraps up.
Ahmed Nur
The 6-foot-9, 190-pound Nur will spend his senior year at the juggernaut CIA Bella Vista in Phoenix, which is the reigning high school basketball national champion from the 2025-26 campaign. As Inside the Loud House has reported, Nur's official visit to the Orange last week went quite well, and the 'Cuse staff believes that it's in a good place with him.
He has also taken official visits to Ole Miss and Purdue, and Nur has unofficially visited a home-state team, Minnesota. Nur was planning to officially visit Texas this weekend, but reports indicate that he will now go on an official visit to Florida State this weekend. I'll be monitoring how Nur's trip to Tallahassee goes.
Nasir Anderson
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Anderson is an elite floor general out of Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He has a top 10 of Syracuse, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Providence, Tennessee, UConn and Virginia. Anderson has set a bunch of upcoming official visits, including his first one to Providence this weekend and one to the 'Cuse later this month, Inside the Loud House has reported.
McNamara and his staff are in regular contact with Anderson and recruiting him hard. The five-star point guard doesn't plan to sign with a college squad during the early period this November, which I think helps the Orange's chances here.
Currently, analysts say that an in-state team, Georgia, and fellow Southeastern Conference school Tennessee have some buzz for the Savannah, Ga., native. That being said, Anderson's recruitment could have a way to go.
