Rumors were swirling, and now it's official: Syracuse basketball 5-star target transfers to Spire

Syracuse basketball 2027 priority recruit Moussa Kamissoko, a five-star wing/small forward in the high school senior class who will visit SU next week, is moving from one big-time high school program to another for the upcoming 2026-27 campaign.

Inside the Loud House had been hearing about a possible transfer for Kamissoko over the past few weeks, and it became official on Wednesday night. The 6-foot-8, 180-pound Kamissoko is headed to the powerhouse Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio, whose head coach is the legendary Kevin Boyle.

Previously, Boyle guided another juggernaut program, the Montverde Academy in Montverde, Fla., to several national championships, and he's got a loaded 2026-27 roster that now includes Kamissoko, who is ranked as high as No. 8 nationally in his cycle by Rivals.

Most recently, Kamissoko played at Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y., which is part of the 15-team Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic ("EYBL Scholastic"). Spire was in the EYBL Scholastic for the 2025-26 season, when the super league had 20 members, but the Ohio-based program isn't for the upcoming campaign.

Spire, among others, is a partner with Adidas. There are rumblings out there that a new powerhouse league might be forming and could include some Adidas- or even Under Armour-sponsored high school teams, but nothing has been publicly announced at this juncture.

In 2025-26, Spire went 29-5 overall, 11-3 in EYBL Scholastic regular-season play and earned a berth in the season-ending Chipotle Nationals, which is held in early April in Fishers, Ind. Multiple high school hoops experts have told Inside the Loud House lately that Spire is a significant contender to make a return trip to the Chipotle Nationals this coming season.

Spire's 2026-27 roster also includes 2027 five-star point guard King Gibson, who received a scholarship offer from the Orange in mid-May. These days, the 'Cuse doesn't appear to be a major contender in Gibson's recruitment.

Another transfer to Spire for the upcoming campaign is Rochester, N.Y., native David Johnson, a 2029 five-star wing who held a scholarship offer from the former SU staff under then-head coach Adrian Autry.

Johnson, who left the Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., for Spire, hasn't been re-offered by the new 'Cuse staff led by first-year head coach Gerry McNamara. However, Inside the Loud House believes that McNamara and his assistants will likely evaluate Johnson as the Orange gets more involved with 2029 players down the line.

Kamissoko, meanwhile, is one of several priority targets for Syracuse basketball coaches in the 2027 class, which to date features one verbal pledge in Albany, N.Y., native Jack Donohue, a three-star wing out of The Newman School in Boston.

A standout in grassroots hoops this spring and summer for the 17U team of the Bronx, N.Y.-based PSA Cardinals in Nike's EYBL league, Kamissoko is expected to take an official visit to Syracuse basketball from September 3 to September 4, Inside the Loud House has reported.
