Syracuse basketball has two verbal commitments in its 2027 class, and that could be all that the Orange ends up with in this cycle at the high school level.
On Friday, Bronx, N.Y., native Moussa Kamissoko, a 2027 five-star wing/small forward, pledged to first-year head coach Gerry McNamara and the Orange program. He joins another New York product, three-star wing Jack Donohue from Albany, in SU's 2027 class, which on Saturday was No. 19 nationally and No. 2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, according to Rivals.
The primary 2027 prospect whom the 'Cuse staff remains in pursuit of is four-star wing/forward Ahmed Nur of CIA Bella Vista in Phoenix, a source tells Inside the Loud House. Nur took an official visit to the Orange in late August, and Syracuse basketball has also been in for him during an open gym at CIA Bella Vista after the fall recruiting period opened on September 9.
Nur, per reports, took an official visit to SMU earlier this week, and he's also officially visited schools such as Florida State, Ole Miss and Purdue. Yes, there's positional overlap among Nur and Kamissoko, but it's important to keep in mind that Syracuse likes to recruit long, rangy and athletic wings; both of these guys fit that mold.
Syracuse basketball's 2027 class got a massive jolt on Friday.
Understandably, a lot of Orange recruiting enthusiasts are wondering about 2027 five-star point guard Nasir Anderson, who has included the 'Cuse in his top 10 but canceled a recent official visit to SU.
When the fall recruiting period began earlier this month, the Syracuse basketball staff was in for Anderson at Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. At this juncture, sources tell Inside the Loud House that the Orange is likely on the outside looking in for Anderson.
He doesn't plan to sign during the early period this November, although unless Syracuse basketball coaches are able to get Anderson on the Hill for an official visit at some point, the 'Cuse isn't going to win out for him.
I continue to stress that it's vital to consider the Orange's current roster makeup as we discuss the team's 2027 recruiting efforts. SU's 2026-27 roster includes 15 players, all of whom can return again for another season, whether because they aren't seniors, or due to the NCAA's new 5-for-5 eligibility model, which was approved in late June.
Plus, if we're talking about Anderson's specific position, Syracuse basketball has two true point guards on its roster in senior transfer Garwey Dual and freshman Ryan Moesch.
As Inside the Loud House has maintained for a while now, because the 'Cuse has a 15-man roster in 2026-27, its 2027 high school cycle was always likely to be small. We also don't know which guys on the current roster may elect to transfer after the upcoming campaign, while the SU coaching staff will also look to add players via the portal next offseason.
The international markets are also becoming increasingly important for college basketball programs, including the Orange. Even if Syracuse basketball is done in 2027 at the prep level, it's a solid class, and let's see how things play out with Nur's recruitment, in particular.
