Gerry McNamara and Syracuse land game-changing 2027 pledge in 5-star Moussa Kamissoko

Syracuse basketball coaches had recruited Bronx, N.Y., native Moussa Kamissoko hard for nearly two years, and the Orange scored a verbal commitment from the 2027 five-star wing/small forward on Friday morning, as Inside the Loud House had anticipated.

The 6-foot-8, 180-pound Kamissoko, ranked as high as No. 7 nationally by Rivals in the high school senior class, announced his verbal pledge to first-year head coach Gerry McNamara and his staff via social media, and a source confirmed this news to Inside the Loud House as well.

The former SU staff under then-head coach Adrian Autry first offered a scholarship to Kamissoko in late December 2024. McNamara, hired to lead the 'Cuse program this past March, and his assistants continued to push hard for the New York City product, and that level of dedication helped enable Syracuse basketball to prevail for Kamissoko, who is a top-15 national prospect in the 2027 cycle per both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking.

In the Orange's 2027 prep class, Kamissoko joins three-star wing and Albany, N.Y., product Jack Donohue, a senior at The Newman School in Boston who verbally committed to the 'Cuse last month.

Throughout his recruiting process, Kamissoko picked up more than 20 offers from a range of high-major programs. He took an official visit to the Hill in early September. Recently, Kamissoko has also unofficially visited Providence while going on official visits to Florida State, Oklahoma State and Illinois.

In recent days, the Syracuse basketball buzz for Kamissoko continued to build. Joe Tipton of On3/Rivals logged a prediction for SU to ultimately land Kamissoko, while multiple national analysts told Inside the Loud House on background that the Orange was in a great spot for Kamissoko, and adding that he would potentially cancel future official visits, including one that was scheduled for UConn this weekend.

Since the fall recruiting period began on September 9, the 'Cuse coaching staff was in for Kamissoko at least three times, with McNamara on hand for him earlier this week. That kind of full-court press, to me, suggested that Syracuse basketball was not only going all in for Kamissoko, but also that the Orange was likely to secure a pledge from him (although nothing in the recruiting world is ever a certainty).

Kamissoko previously played alongside Syracuse basketball sophomore guard/wing Kiyan Anthony at Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y. For his senior year, though, Kamissoko will suit up at the powerhouse Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio, a program that is No. 1 in a preseason top 25 from MADE Hoops ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

This spring and summer on the AAU circuits, Kamissoko was a standout with the 17U team of the Bronx, N.Y.-based PSA Cardinals in Nike's EYBL league. He averaged 16.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game while making 51.2 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from beyond the arc and 69.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Kamissoko's decision to pick Syracuse basketball is a game-changing recruiting win for first-year head coach McNamara, his staff and the entire SU program.
