After showing an interest in New Jersey product Michai White for a while, the Syracuse basketball staff officially extended a scholarship offer to the 2028 five-star point guard, he noted via his Instagram page on Thursday.
SU's offer to the 6-foot-2, 175-pound White was anticipated by Inside the Loud House. He had heard from the Orange coaching staff after the 2028 contact period opened this past June 15, and on Thursday morning, 'Cuse assistant Ben Lee was on hand at White's new school, the powerhouse Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to watch several five-star players, including White, Inside the Loud House reported.
Besides White, Lee was in attendance for Syracuse basketball 2027 priority target Nasir Anderson, who is a five-star point guard in his class, and 2028 five-star center Bamba Touray during an open gym at Prolific Prep on Thursday morning amid the fall recruiting period kicking off on September 9.
A consensus top-30 national prospect in the 2028 cycle, White checks in at No. 18 overall, No. 2 at point guard and No. 5 in Florida, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.
Syracuse basketball has made another five-star offer in the 2028 class.
A native of Hackensack, N.J., White has recruiting ties to the Orange that date back more than a year. In late August 2025, he went on an unofficial visit to the 'Cuse to compete in the team's Elite Camp while then-head coach Adrian Autry was still at the program's helm.
This past March, another former Syracuse basketball standout guard, Gerry McNamara, took over the Orange. He and his staff have continued to be in contact with White. As Inside the Loud House reported last month, 'Cuse coaches have offered a scholarship to more than a dozen prospects in the high school junior class.
Inside the Loud House is told that Syracuse basketball coaches and White are discussing an upcoming visit to SU, whether an official or unofficial one. Nothing has been scheduled as of yet. Stay tuned.
By the way, last weekend, White took an official visit to Providence, and the Friars, led by first-year head coach and Western New York native Bryan Hodgson, are aggressively pursuing several prospects in the 2027 and 2028 cycles who are also being targeted by McNamara and his staff.
In 2025-26, White suited up at the Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H. This coming season, he will play alongside some elite players at Prolific Prep, a group that high school hoops experts tell Inside the Loud House is a significant contender to win a national title at the culmination of the 2026-27 campaign.
During the latest grassroots hoops season, White played up a division for the 17U team of the Albany, N.Y.-based City Rocks in Nike's EYBL league. Per the EYBL Web site, he averaged 18.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game while making 44.1 percent from the field, 28.6 percent from beyond the arc and 72.4 percent from the free-throw line.
According to recruiting services, White's full scholarship offer sheet also includes schools such as Providence, Auburn, Michigan, Florida State, Villanova, Virginia, Maryland, Indiana, Oklahoma State, Penn State, VCU, Stanford, Northwestern, UNLV and Louisville, among others.
