Syracuse is pushing hard for 5-star wing who will likely visit. 'He brings energy and passion.'

Syracuse basketball has recruited Moussa Kamissoko, the 2027 five-star wing/small forward, for a while now, first offering him a scholarship in late December 2024. The new Orange staff under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara is prioritizing the 6-foot-8 Kamissoko, Inside the Loud House has reported.

Ranked as high as No. 8 in the high school senior class by Rivals, Kamissoko has set an official visit to fellow Atlantic Coast Conference school Florida State, 247Sports national analyst Dushawn London reports.

The 'Cuse is expected to get an official visit from Kamissoko, although nothing has been scheduled at this point, multiple sources have told Inside the Loud House.

Kamissoko attends Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y., which is where SU sophomore guard/wing Kiyan Anthony played before joining the Orange. Long Island Lutheran is a member of the loaded 15-team Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic ("EYBL Scholastic").

In the latest grassroots hoops campaign, Kamissoko suited up for the 17U team of the Bronx, N.Y.-based PSA Cardinals in Nike's EYBL league, where he averaged 16.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game while connecting on 51.2 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from beyond the arc and 69.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Donovan Jones, the head coach of the PSA Cardinals' 17U squad, confirmed in a phone interview this week that the Orange is among the teams pushing hard for Kamissoko these days; he holds around 20 offers from a range of high-major programs, including UConn, Alabama, N.C. State, Oklahoma State, Louisville, Kentucky and Virginia, where former SU head coach Adrian Autry is now an assistant.

Kamissoko will cut his list of contenders at some point, while looking to set up official visits in September and October before making a college decision in November or possibly later than that, Jones says, adding that he thinks SU will get an official visit from Kamissoko.

Jones says that Kamissoko can be a little shy at first, but he's coming more into a leadership role as he enters his senior year of high school. "He's a great young man. Energetic, fun, respectful. Great character and a great family," Jones says. "The energy that he brings, the passion and joy for the game," it rubs off on his teammates.

Kamissoko is a versatile two-way player who can guard multiple positions. He can shoot from the perimeter and score at all three levels. He continues to work on his handle, and Kamissoko is an excellent rebounder out on the wing, Jones says.

Kamissoko likes to play in the open court, Jones adds, something that is echoed by national analysts and scouts who track his game. When asked if Kamissoko has NBA potential, Jones says he "passes the eye test," although he needs to work on adding strength and filling out his frame.

In an evaluation last month from Adam Finkelstein, the director of scouting for 247Sports and CBS Sports, he wrote that Kamissoko is "at his best offensively when he’s playing with freedom and room to operate. That means transition first and foremost, but he’s also a talented scorer in other contexts."

Finkelstein added that Kamissoko has "real upside with his length and movement skills" on the defensive end. "He makes things happen with his activity level ... is equally active on the glass, and a good wing rebounder," the national scout says.

Keep checking in with Inside the Loud House as it pertains to Kamissoko potentially taking an official visit to Syracuse basketball this fall. Additionally, the Orange staff will likely be in for him during open gyms at Long Island Lutheran once the fall recruiting period opens up next month.
