Syracuse basketball battling UConn, others for 5-star priority target; SU visit expected

Over the weekend, 2027 five-star wing/small forward Moussa Kamissoko, a priority recruit for Syracuse basketball coaches in this class, balled out at the prestigious ABCD Camp in Phoenix, where other Orange targets also competed.

The 6-foot-8 Kamissoko holds around 20 scholarship offers from a range of high-major programs, including the 'Cuse, UConn, Providence, Villanova, Alabama, N.C. State, Oklahoma State, Louisville, Illinois, Kentucky and Virginia, where former SU head coach Adrian Autry is an assistant.

As Inside the Loud House reported late last month, Kamissoko is among a handful of high school seniors who are priority recruits for the new 'Cuse staff under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara in the 2027 cycle.

Kamissoko's recruitment is relatively open these days, and it's also flying under the radar, so to speak. What I mean by that is Kamissoko and his camp seem to be keeping things relatively close to the vest. However, Inside the Loud House can confirm that McNamara and his assistants are making an aggressive push for Kamissoko, who is No. 7 nationally in the 2027 class, per Rivals.

Jamie Shaw, the senior national analyst at Rivals, tells me that the two schools he hears the most about in Kamissoko's recruiting process are Syracuse basketball and UConn, which won recent national titles in 2023 and 2024. SU and the Huskies will also suit up in an exhibition this October.

Kamissoko has not publicly announced any official visit dates yet, but Shaw relayed to me on Monday that he expects both the Orange and Connecticut to get visits from Kamissoko. Stay tuned on that. Other suitors to monitor include Louisville and Oklahoma State, among others.

The Orange's pursuit of Kamissoko dates back to late December 2024, when Autry and his staff first offered a scholarship to the talented prospect out of Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y., and the Bronx, N.Y.-based PSA Cardinals in Nike's EYBL league.

Long Island Lutheran is the former home of 'Cuse sophomore shooting guard Kiyan Anthony. The SU staff has recruited other prospects who have played for the Crusaders, a powerhouse prep program that is part of the loaded 15-team Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic ("EYBL Scholastic").

This spring and summer on the EYBL circuit, Kamissoko was among the top performers in grassroots hoops. He averaged 16.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game while making 51.2 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from beyond the arc and 69.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Throughout the latest AAU season, there were several NCAA-permitted live periods, with the Syracuse basketball coaching staff watching Kamissoko and other recruiting targets, primarily in the 2027 and 2028 classes.

In addition to the Orange likely getting Kamissoko to the Hill at some point for an official visit, the fall recruiting period will commence in early September. Look for McNamara and his assistants to be on hand for Kamissoko at Long Island Lutheran during open gyms. It's also possible that SU coaches will conduct an in-home visit with Kamissoko.
