The new Syracuse basketball staff, led by first-year head coach Gerry McNamara, has re-offered a scholarship to 2028 four-star small forward Will Brunson.

The 6-foot-6 Brunson, rated in the top 30 nationally of his class by several recruiting services, first picked up an offer from the Orange, under then-head coach Adrian Autry, in June of last year. Last December 17, when SU beat Mercyhurst at the JMA Wireless Dome, Brunson took an unofficial visit to the Syracuse basketball program.

On June 15, the contact period opened for 2028 prospects, enabling college coaches to initiate direct communication with rising high school juniors. Since then, the Orange staff has doled out some offers while showing an interest in other 2028 players.

Via his Instagram page, Brunson reports offers from schools such as the 'Cuse, Auburn, Fairfield, Rider, Rutgers, La Salle, Seton Hall, Mississippi State, TCU, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, N.C. State, Villanova, Ole Miss, Louisville, Providence, Kansas, Indiana and Georgia Tech.

Brunson had a standout sophomore season at the Rutgers Preparatory School in Somerset, N.J. In the 2025-26 campaign, he averaged 22.1 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game and was named to the MaxPreps sophomore All-America second team.

Earlier this month, amid a scholastic live period, Orange assistant coach Ryan Daly was on hand watching prospects at Philly Live. Rutgers Prep was among those teams participating at Philly Live, and it wouldn't surprise me if Daly checked out Brunson there.

This spring and summer on the AAU circuits, Brunson is playing up a division for the 17U team of the New York City-based Renaissance Hoops in Nike's EYBL league. One of his NY Rens teammates is 2027 four-star center Caleb Ourigou, who last month was also re-offered a scholarship by McNamara and the new Syracuse basketball staff.

So far in the current AAU season for the NY Rens, Brunson is averaging 4.6 points and 1.9 rebounds per contest while connecting on 41.2 percent from the field, 23.1 percent from beyond the arc and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line.
