The Syracuse basketball staff, under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara, is in touch with 2028 guard Malachi Odugbela, who has played quite well this spring and summer on the Adidas 3SSB circuit.
Since the 2028 contact period opened on June 15, enabling college coaches to initiate direct communication with prospects in this class, the 6-foot-6 Odugbela has heard from teams such as the Orange, Providence and Saint Louis, according to Dylan Thayer, who is the director of the New England Recruiting Report.

Per his Instagram page, Odugbela's early scholarship offer sheet includes Providence, which will battle the 'Cuse in the non-conference portion of the 2026-27 season, Marquette, Saint Louis and Manhattan.
Odugbela is heading into his junior campaign at the St. Andrew's School in Barrington, R.I., which is where former Syracuse basketball forward Cole Swider played. Swider, as Inside the Loud House first reported last week, is suiting up for Boeheim's Army in this summer's The Basketball Tournament ("TBT").

Syracuse basketball has interest in 2028 guard Malachi Odugbela.
In grassroots hoops, Odugbela is balling out for the 16U team of the Boston-based BABC in the Adidas 3SSB league. This weekend has been a live period on the AAU circuits, and the Orange staff has been on hand at the 3SSB session in Bryan, Texas. It wouldn't be a surprise if the 'Cuse coaching staff watched Odugbela during the NCAA-permitted evaluation period.

This weekend, Odugbela tallied two different games in which he notched 22 points. In the current AAU season, he is averaging 17.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.9 steals per contest. In the 16U division, Odugbela ranks within the top 10 in points per game.

Congratulations to @thebabc and their 10th grade 3SSB team on going 5-0 at #ZGFinals to secure the Division 1 National Championship 🔥🏀

In his sophomore term at St. Andrew's, per a post on X, he averaged 14.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per encounter. While Odugbela doesn't currently reside in the 2028 national rankings, if he continues to ball out at St. Andrew's and for BABC, he's likely to jump into the top 100 overall, if not higher than that.
Since mid-June, when the 2028 contact period opened, the Orange coaching staff has reached out to numerous prospects from this class. Additionally, a handful of 2028 players have received a scholarship offer from McNamara and his assistants.
