Amid the fall recruiting period that kicked off last month, the Syracuse basketball staff has been in for various 2027 and 2028 prospects during open gyms at their high school programs.

On Wednesday, the Orange was on hand for 2028 four-star combo guard Carter Smith, according to a post on X from Ari Rosenfeld, the owner and scouting director of ELITE High School Scouting. The 6-foot-4 Smith is a top-65 national prospect who attends the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia.

Smith held a scholarship offer from the former SU staff under then-head coach Adrian Autry. He took an unofficial visit to the Hill in late August 2025 to participate in the Orange's Elite Camp. The new 'Cuse staff did not hold an Elite Camp this past August, as Syracuse basketball coaches have been focused on their 2026-27 roster and their 2027 recruiting class, Inside the Loud House has reported.

In mid-June, Smith disclosed that SU first-year head coach Gerry McNamara and his staff had re-offered the Philadelphia product. To date, the new Orange coaching staff has offered a scholarship to roughly 15 players in the high school junior class.

Syracuse basketball coaches continue to visit commits and recruits at open gyms.

As a sophomore at William Penn, Smith averaged 19.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.9 steals per game, according to MaxPreps. In the latest AAU season, Smith was a standout for the 16U squad of the Philadelphia-based Team Final in Nike's EYBL league. This past July, he helped Team Final win the annual Peach Jam crown in the 16U division.

Inside the Loud House has reported on numerous other 2027 and 2028 prospects whom the 'Cuse staff has been in attendance for at recent open gyms. They include both of Syracuse basketball's 2027 verbal commits, three-star wing Jack Donohue from Albany, N.Y., and five-star wing/small forward Moussa Kamissoko from the Bronx, N.Y. Donohue has unofficially visited SU, while Kamissoko has taken an official visit to the Orange.

Others watched by the 'Cuse staff at recent open gyms include 2028 four-star power forward Damian Mojica, 2027 four-star wing/forward Ahmed Nur, 2027 five-star point guard Nasir Anderson, 2028 five-star point guard Michai White, 2028 five-star center Bamba Touray, 2028 five-star wing/small forward Will Brunson, 2028 five-star wing Isaiah Hamilton, 2028 five-star wing Xavier Skipworth and 2028 four-star guard Darren Ford.

Mojica has unofficially visited the 'Cuse, while Nur has taken an official visit to the Hill. White participated in SU's Elite Camp in late August 2025.
