Syracuse basketball continues to dole out offers to high school sophomores.

On Saturday night, per 247Sports national analyst Dushawn London, the Orange staff offered a scholarship to 2028 five-star shooting guard/small forward Kevin Wheatley Jr., who hails from Rahway, N.J., near New York City.

A huge congrats to Kevin! The 6-foot-7, 200-pound Wheatley had been playing for Our Saviour Lutheran High School in the Bronx, N.Y., as part of the Atlanta-based professional league Overtime Elite, but in mid-October of this year, he transferred to the powerhouse Brewster AcademyΒ in Wolfeboro, N.H.

Over the years, numerous Brewster alumni have gone on to compete for the 'Cuse. Brewster, currently a top-10 national team in the 2025-26 season per ESPN, suits up in the loaded 20-team Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic ("EYBL Scholastic").

One of Wheatley's teammates at Brewster is 2028 five-star point guard Michai White, who played at the Orange's annual Elite Camp this past August and should earn a 'Cuse scholarship offer soon. Beyond Wheatley, I'm aware of at least 11 other prospects in the 2028 cycle who have picked up an Orange offer.

According to recruiting services, Wheatley's scholarship offer sheet also includes schools such as Auburn, Georgia Tech and Rutgers. The contact period for 2028 players doesn't open until mid-June of next year, so Wheatley's offer list is going to blow up at some point in the future.

When I wrote this article, within the 2028 class, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite had Wheatley as five stars, No. 25 overall, No. 4 at shooting guard and No. 2 in New Hampshire. Over at the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking, he is No. 18 nationally, No. 4 at small forward and No. 1 in New York.

ESPN, meanwhile, ranks Wheatley at No. 24 overall, No. 7 at small forward and No. 1 in New York. Over the summer on the AAU circuit, Wheatley played at a high level for the 15U team of the New York City-based New York Lightning in Nike's EYBL league.

During an EYBL regular-season session this past July, Wheatley averaged 21.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per contest. At the EYBL's season-ending Peach Jam tournament in North Augusta, S.C., he averaged 17.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.
