The 2026 FIBA U17 World Cup is taking place in Istanbul, Türkiye, and Syracuse basketball recruiting targets are playing for both the United States and Canada.
Team USA (4-0) and Team Canada (3-1) are each playing in the quarterfinals on Friday, July 3. The U.S. will face Puerto Rico, while Canada is squaring off against Australia. If Team USA and Team Canada both win, they would battle one another in the semifinals. The U.S. is trying to win its eighth straight FIBA U17 World Cup crown.
For Team USA, 2028 five-star wing Mason Collins is an Orange recruit. The 6-foot-6 Collins, out of The Tatnall School in Wilmington, Del., has heard from the 'Cuse staff since the 2028 contact period opened on June 15.
In the FIBA U17 World Cup, Collins is averaging 15.3 minutes, 7.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.8 steals per game while connecting on 50.0 percent from the field and 30.0 percent from beyond the arc.
Syracuse basketball targets are vying for a gold medal at the FIBA U17 World Cup.
For Team Canada, three players hold an offer from the new Orange staff under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara. They are 2028 five-star wing Isaiah Hamilton out of the Montverde Academy in Montverde, Fla., 2028 five-star point guard Liam Mitakaro out of CIA Bella Vista in Phoenix and 2028 four-star forward Isaiah Clarke, who also plays for CIA Bella Vista.
At the FIBA U17 World Cup, Hamilton is averaging 19.6 minutes, 13.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals per contest while making 32.7 percent from the field, 29.6 percent from 3-point land and 71.4 percent from the charity stripe.
Mitakaro is averaging 25.4 minutes, 17.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game. He's making 35.3 percent from the field, 30.3 percent from downtown and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line.
Last but not least, Clarke is averaging 24.1 minutes, 13.3 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and
1.5 steals per encounter. He's hitting on 39.0 percent from the field and 70.0 percent from the charity stripe.
Since the 2028 contact period opened in mid-June, enabling Orange coaches to initiate direct communication with rising high school juniors, McNamara and his assistants have offered numerous 2028 players while showing an interest in various others.
