Syracuse football hauls in pledge from 4-star QB who's thrown for 10,000 yards, 112 TDs

Syracuse football coaches have picked up a massive verbal commitment from a four-star quarterback in the 2025 class who has put forth a ridiculous high school career so far in Texas.
That elite signal-caller is Luke Carney, who this past weekend was one of numerous Orange recruits on the Hill on unofficial visits. Carney, in recent days, has also proven one of several targets to verbally pledge to the 'Cuse 2025 class, which has moved into the top 35 around the country.
On Monday in the late afternoon, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Carney revealed via his X page that he was verbally committing to Syracuse football and its head coach, ace recruiter Fran Brown. The new 'Cuse staff offered a scholarship to Carney in late January of this year.
First and foremost, a huge congrats and welcome from Orange Nation to Luke!
Syracuse football has scored a huge commitment from 2025 four-star quarterback Luke Carney.
Carney is a three-time state champion out of the Dallas Christian School in Mesquite, Texas. In his junior season, per the MaxPreps Web site, Carney completed 80 percent of his passes for 3,723 yards and 38 touchdowns against a mere six interceptions. He also carried the ball 78 times for 843 yards and nine more scores on the ground.
According to a post on his X page, to date in high school, Carney has amassed a 39-3 overall record to go along with those three state titles. He's completed 73.4 percent of his passes for a ridiculous 10,203 yards and 112 touchdowns, with only 16 interceptions.
Per recruiting services, he has collected more than two dozen offers from high-major programs including Boston College, James Madison, Memphis, Arizona, Arkansas, BYU, California, UConn, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Marshall, Minnesota, San Diego State and USF, among others.
Within the 2025 class, Rivals.com rates Carney as four stars and the No. 25 quarterback nationally. Both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking place him within the top 850 overall in this cycle, but I envision that Carney's national rankings will soar as he shines as a senior for Dallas Christian.
Also on Monday, 2025 defensive end Jaylen Pray out of the Brunswick School in Greenwich, Conn., verbally committed to the 'Cuse. Those two pledges give the Orange at least eight commitments to date among high school juniors.
Other 2025 verbal pledges for Syracuse football include athlete Jordan Gibbs of Longwood High School in Middle Island, N.Y., three-star offensive lineman Byron Washington of DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Texas, athlete/defensive back Marcus Upton of Winslow Township High School in Atco, N.J., three-star wide receiver Darien Williams of the Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, defensive back Javon Lawrence of North Rockland High School in Thiells, N.Y., and four-star edge Sharlandiin Strange of Cheltenham High School in Wyncote, Pa.
When I wrote this column on Monday evening, the 'Cuse 2025 class was ranked No. 30 nationwide via Rivals.com, No. 32 from the 247Sports Composite, and No. 34 from the On3 Industry Ranking. This is a tremendous start for Brown and his staff in the high school junior cycle.
