Penn State redshirt sophomore quarterback Beau Pribula, who held an offer from Syracuse football while in high school, said on his X page that he plans to enter the transfer portal.
The 6-foot-2, 207-pound Pribula said in his post on X that his decision to enter the portal was an "impossible" one. This statement concerns the current transfer portal window, which opened on December 9 and will run through December 28, overlapping with the 12-team College Football Playoff.
Big Ten Conference member Penn State (11-2 overall), ranked No. 6, will host Atlantic Coast Conference squad and No. 11 SMU (11-2 overall) on December 21 in a College Football Playoff first-round game.
According to his X page, Pribula said that he received a scholarship offer from the Orange on April 16 of 2020. That offer came under the 'Cuse staff led by former Syracuse football head coach Dino Babers.
I'll be curious to see whether the current Orange staff, led by first-year head coach and ace recruiter Fran Brown, pursues Pribula. As I've noted in recent columns, several other transfer quarterbacks have visited the Hill of late, such as Virginia sophomore Anthony Colandrea, Liberty redshirt junior Kaidon Salter and LSU redshirt freshman Rickie Collins.
Penn State QB Beau Pribula, who held a Syracuse football offer in high school, plans to enter the transfer portal.
As a back-up for the Nittany Lions during the 2024 regular season, Pribula completed 74.3 percent of his passes for 275 yards with five touchdowns and one interception. In the 2023 term at Penn state, he completed 52.4 percent of his pass attempts for 149 yards with four touchdowns and no picks.
When I wrote this article on Monday night, in its national transfer rankings, 247Sports had Pribula as three stars, No. 77 overall and No. 11 at quarterback.
As a member of the 2022 recruiting cycle, Pribula was rated a three-star prospect by most recruiting services as a standout for Central York High School in York, Pa. ESPN, though, did place him as four stars, the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback and the No. 10 player coming out of Pennsylvania within the 2022 class.
Obviously, ahead of the 2024 term, the Orange staff did a fabulous job landing Ohio State four-star transfer quarterback Kyle McCord, who as a senior at the 'Cuse has set all kinds of single-season program records.
It remains to be seen whether Syracuse football coaches want to bring a transfer in to be the presumed starter at quarterback for the 2025 stanza. The Orange's quarterback room for 2025 is likely to include redshirt senior Michael Johnson Jr., who has received a hardship waiver from the NCAA to be eligible to play next year, as well as underclassmen Jakhari Williams, Luke Carney and Rich Belin.
