On Friday night, Syracuse football record-setting senior quarterback Kyle McCord scored another big-time achievement for his stellar performance during the 2024 regular season.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound McCord, a native of Mount Laurel, N.J., has finished at No. 10 in the voting for this term's Heisman Trophy, the most prestigious annual award in college football.
A huge congrats to Kyle on this well-deserved honor. Per SU Athletics, McCord represents the eighth 'Cuse player to finish in the top 10 of the Heisman Trophy voting. Legendary running back Ernie Davis won the Heisman Trophy in 1961.
McCord is the highest finisher in the Heisman Trophy voting for an Orange player dating back to 2001, when All-American defensive end Dwight Freeney finished ninth in the voting. Other Syracuse football players who have finished in the top 10 of the Heisman Trophy voting include Jim Brown, Floyd Little, Larry Csonka, Don McPherson and Donovan McNabb.
That's some pretty select company for McCord in his lone campaign on the Hill.
Syracuse football senior quarterback Kyle McCord has put forth an incredible year.
McCord, a four-star transfer from Ohio State and a former five-star prep recruit coming out of the Philadelphia market, helped lead the Orange to a 9-3 record during the 2024 regular season.
The 'Cuse, under first-year head coach Fran Brown and his top-flight staff, has defeated three top-25 foes in 2024, and one top-10 opponent. Ranked No. 21 in the latest College Football Playoff top 25, Syracuse football will play Pac-12 Conference member Washington State (8-4) at the Holiday Bowl on December 27 in San Diego, as the Orange aims for its first 10-win stanza since 2018.
McCord, an All-ACC second-team performer, has completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 4,326 yards and 29 touchdowns against 12 interceptions. He has set single-season 'Cuse program records for total attempts, total completions, total passing yards and total touchdowns through the air.
Ahead of the upcoming bowl season, on a national scale, McCord is No. 1 in the country in total passing yards, passing yards per game and completions per contest. He's also tied for No. 5 nationwide in total passing touchdowns.
Earlier this week, word came out that McCord will compete in the Holiday Bowl, something that Brown had recently said he expected would transpire. It's just proven a true honor and a privilege to have McCord as the Orange's signal-caller in 2024, and Kyle's top-10 finish in the Heisman Trophy voting is beautiful.
