Keep an eye on this 4-star wing to possibly visit Syracuse basketball, re-class to 2026

There's chatter that 2027 4-star Clyde Walters may re-classify to 2026, and he could end up visiting Syracuse basketball.

Clyde Walters from Birmingham, Ala., a 2027 four-star wing/small forward who holds a Syracuse basketball offer, will spend the upcoming season with the Atlanta-based professional league Overtime Elite.

There's also some early chatter that he could prove among several 2027 prospects who might eye a re-class into the 2026 cycle. Additionally, a source tells me that the Orange coaching staff is discussing potentially trying to get the 6-foot-6 Walters up to the Hill for a visit at some point. Stay tuned on that.

Walters spent last season at the powerhouse Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., but not too long ago, he transferred to Overtime Elite, where several other 'Cuse recruiting targets also play. The Syracuse basketball staff offered a scholarship to Walters in late June of this year.

Beyond the Orange, Walters' scholarship offer sheet includes schools such as Alabama, UAB, Kennesaw State, Troy, Tennessee Tech, Ole Miss and Georgia State. Per the X account The Portal Scoop, Walters recently took an unofficial visit to Ole Miss out of the Southeastern Conference.

Syracuse basketball is looking to make a run for 4-star wing Clyde Walters.

Within the 2027 class, the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking has Walters at No. 49 overall, No. 11 at small forward and No. 7 in Georgia. Earlier this month, at Overtime Elite's annual pro day, Orange assistant coach Allen Griffin was on hand to watch Walters and other recruits, two sources told me.

Three other Syracuse basketball targets who compete in Overtime Elite are 2026 four-star big man Asher Elson, who will officially visit the 'Cuse from October 10 to October 12, 2027 four-star point guard Anderson Diaz and 2027 four-star center Caleb Ourigou.

Should Walters re-classify into 2026, he could emerge as a top target for Syracuse basketball in that cycle. My best guesstimate of the Orange's priority recruits in the 2026 class includes five-star point guard Deron Rippey Jr., five-star shooting guard Jordan Smith Jr., four-star shooting guard Dakari Spear, four-star wing/small forward Vaughn Karvala and Elson.

Rippey is officially visiting this weekend, I first reported a while back. Smith unofficially visited last September, and I'm told he's likely to visit the 'Cuse again at some point, perhaps for a Syracuse basketball game. Spear recently took an official visit, Elson visits next month, and Karvala is working with Orange coaches to reschedule his official visit to Central New York that was originally scheduled for this weekend.
