Gerry McNamara on hand for Syracuse 5-star priority Moussa Kamissoko, who cancels UConn visit

Syracuse basketball has buzz for 2027 five-star priority target Moussa Kamissoko, and first-year head coach Gerry McNamara is hoping it stays that way.

On Wednesday, per social media posts, McNamara and assistant coach Jamal Brunt were in attendance during an open gym at Kamissoko's high school. Since the start of the fall recruiting period on September 9, this is at least the third time that the Orange staff has been in for the 6-foot-8, 180-pound Kamissoko, a wing/small forward, at the powerhouse Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio.

Earlier this week, national reporter Joe Tipton of On3/Rivals projected that the 'Cuse would land Kamissoko, a sentiment that several national analysts have intimated to Inside the Loud House on background in recent days.

To be clear, it's not a certainty that Kamissoko will pick the Orange, but Syracuse basketball is, without question, in a great spot for him. There are rumblings that he may make a commitment announcement early next month.

Syracuse basketball is rumored to be the leader for 2027 five-star Moussa Kamissoko.

Kamissoko, a Bronx, N.Y., native who was first offered a scholarship by the Orange program back in late December 2024, transferred to Spire for his senior season. Before that, he competed for Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y., which is the same team that SU sophomore guard/wing Kiyan Anthony played for before joining the 'Cuse.

Earlier this month, Kamissoko took an official visit to Syracuse basketball that went well. He has recently taken an unofficial visit to Providence, along with official visits to Florida State, Oklahoma State and Illinois.

Reports have stated that Kamissoko has scheduled upcoming official visits to UConn, Louisville and Baylor. However, Inside the Loud House has been told that Kamissoko might be canceling these other official visits.

To that end, college basketball insider Adam Zagoria said via X on Thursday morning that Kamissoko "will not visit UConn this weekend and is weighing whether to take future visits."

Kamissoko, within the 2027 cycle, is a consensus top-20 national prospect who is ranked as high as No. 7 by Rivals. This spring and summer, he was a standout with the 17U team of the Bronx, N.Y.-based PSA Cardinals in Nike's EYBL league.

To date, McNamara and his assistants have one 2027 verbal pledge from three-star wing Jack Donohue, an Albany, N.Y., native who is a senior at The Newman School in Boston.
