On May 13, 2026, the Syracuse football staff offered a scholarship to the 6-foot-5, 270-pound McGowan, and it was his first power-four conference offer, according to his X page.
According to recruiting services, McGowan's full scholarship offer sheet includes schools such as Georgia, N.C. State, Toledo, Miami (Ohio), Liberty, USF, Temple, Colorado, South Carolina, Georgia Southern and Western Kentucky.
McGowan attends Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Fla. In recent recruiting cycles, the Orange staff, led by head coach Fran Brown and general manager Tommy Caporale, has done an excellent job landing highly ranked players from the Sunshine State.
Four-star junior defensive lineman Christian McGowan plans to visit for the Syracuse football home game against the Cardinals on Saturday.
Per MaxPreps, as a sophomore for Mandarin, McGowan had seven solo tackles, 19 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks. To date in the 2026 season, Mandarin is 6-1 overall, while McGowan has tallied 15 solo tackles, 17 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, two pass breakups, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble, according to MaxPreps.
Within the 2028 class, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking both place McGowan in the top 500 overall. Rivals has him at No. 255 nationally, No. 31 at defensive lineman and No. 31 in Florida.
As Inside the Loud House has recently reported, the 'Cuse coaching staff is expected to welcome a bunch of 2028 four-star and three-star recruiting targets to the Hill for Saturday evening's game. Additionally, 2027 three-star linebacker/athlete Jerry Black Jr. will visit Syracuse football for the Louisville encounter.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Black, who picked up an offer from Brown and SU earlier this week, verbally committed to Kent State out of the Mid-American Conference in late June of this year. He attends Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School in Cleveland.
To date, the Orange's sole 2028 verbal pledge is from four-star offensive tackle and top-175 national prospect Omari Lawson out the Zarephath Academy in Jacksonville, Fla. The 6-foot-6, 280-pound Lawson visited Syracuse football for its home game against California last month.
