Syracuse football coaches are trying to flip 2027 three-star linebacker/athlete Jerry Black Jr. from Ohio.

Earlier this week, on October 12, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Black said via his X page that he had picked up a scholarship offer from Orange head coach Fran Brown. Black is expected to be at the JMA Wireless Dome this Saturday night to watch when Syracuse football hosts fellow Atlantic Coast Conference school Louisville, a source confirmed to Inside the Loud House on Thursday.

News of Black's anticipated visit to the Hill this Saturday evening was first reported by Midwest football recruiting analyst Allen Trieu of Rivals and On3.

In late June of this year, Black verbally committed to Kent State out of the Mid-American Conference. Black says on his X page that he plays linebacker, safety and wide receiver. He is a standout senior at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School in Cleveland. According to MaxPreps, so far in the 2026 season, Villa Angela-St. Joseph has an overall record of 6-2.

Black is not ranked by 247Sports or ESPN. Within the 2027 cycle, both Rivals and the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking place him as a three-star prospect. The Rivals Industry Ranking has Black at No. 2,409 nationally, No. 241 at his position and No. 111 in Ohio.

Let's take a look at Syracuse football's 2027 class to date.

At this juncture, the Orange's high school senior cycle includes 26 verbal pledges. The early signing period comes in early December, so let's see how many of SU's verbal commits sign with Syracuse football then versus the traditional signing period, which is next February.

When I wrote this column on Thursday, the 'Cuse 2027 class checked in at No. 38 overall via 247Sports, No. 41 from ESPN and No. 45, according to Rivals. Three Syracuse football verbal pledges are rated four stars by at least one recruiting service.

They are running back Elijah Kimble of Canisius High School in Buffalo, N.Y., safety Jalen Welch of Grayson High School in Loganville, Ga., and wide receiver Chanin Harris of James F. Byrnes High School in Duncan, S.C.

Last weekend, Kimble became Western New York's all-time career rushing leader. He took a game-day visit to SU last month when the Orange hosted California. Inside the Loud House is told that Kimble will also be at the Dome on Halloween for Syracuse football's home game against SMU.
