Boeheim's Army's first non-Syracuse player is a familiar one and an excellent pick-up

On Tuesday, word broke that Boeheim's Army had its head coach for this summer's The Basketball Tournament ("TBT"), an annual $1 million, winner-take-all event.

On Wednesday, the team announced another roster addition, and the first non-Syracuse basketball player to join Boeheim's Army for the 2025 TBT. But it's a player who many Orange fans will likely know.

Power forward Nick Perkins, who was a standout at Buffalo and won a TBT grand prize a few years ago, has come on board with Boeheim's Army, whose head coach this summer is Syracuse basketball assistant Allen Griffin.

A huge welcome from Orange Nation to Nick! Other members of the Boeheim's Army roster include shooting guard Buddy Boeheim, wing Elijah Hughes, big man Chris McCullough and big man Rakeem Christmas.

Boeheim's Army continues to beef up its roster.

The 6-foot-8, 254-pound Perkins gives Boeheim's Army even more depth and strength in the paint. He's also a versatile scorer who can score inside and also out on the perimeter.

While Perkins has suited up for various professional teams abroad in recent years, Syracuse basketball fans might remember him for his tenure at Buffalo. He was part of that fabulous Bulls squad in the 2018-19 campaign, led by former head coach Nate Oats, that went 32-4 overall, was a No. 6 seed in the 2019 NCAA Tournament and advanced to the second round of that Big Dance.

As part of that memorable term, Buffalo thumped Syracuse basketball at the JMA Wireless Dome, 71-59, in December of 2018. Per ESPN statistics, in 2018-19 for Buffalo, Perkins averaged 14.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per encounter while making 46.7 percent from the field, 67.1 percent from the free-throw line and 37.3 percent from beyond the arc.

While I didn't enjoy watching Buffalo beat my alma mater back in late 2018, I'm jazzed that Perkins has joined Boeheim's Army, which won the TBT crown in 2021. Speaking of that, the next summer, in 2022, Perkins and his colleagues with Blue Collar U cut down the nets and claimed the cool $1 million grand prize.

So now the Boeheim's Army 2025 roster is up to at least five players, four of whom suited up for the Orange. Hall of Famer and former Syracuse basketball boss Jim Boeheim is the team's head coach emeritus, while businessman and philanthropist Adam Weitsman is serving as chairman of Boeheim's Army.

During this summer's TBT, Syracuse is one of eight regional sites, with games taking place from July 19 to July 23 at the SRC Arena on the campus of Onondaga Community College.

Stayed tuned for more roster announcements from Boeheim's Army soon.
