The Basketball Tournament ("TBT") is returning to Syracuse, and I'm delighted to see it.

The 64-team, $1 million winner-take-all event that occurs over the summer will once again feature Syracuse as one of the regional locations for the 2025 tourney, according to a recent press release.

This means that Boeheim's Army, which didn't play in the 2024 TBT for various reasons, is also returning this summer, which is fabulous.

Named for former legendary Syracuse basketball head coach Jim Boeheim, the Hall of Famer, Boeheim's Army first appeared in the TBT in 2015. Per the tournament's Web site, Boeheim's Army has an overall record in this event of 25-8, winning the grand prize in 2021.

The first announced player for the Boeheim's Army 2025 roster is former Syracuse basketball star Elijah Hughes, who is currently in the midst of a strong 2024-25 campaign for the Cleveland Charge in the NBA's G League.

By the way, the Syracuse regional of the 2025 TBT will take place from July 18 to July 23 at Onondaga Community College. More roster announcements for Boeheinm's Army should come soon, Donna Ditota of Syracuse.com recently reported.

Boeheim's Army, a collection of former Syracuse basketball players and others, will return to the TBT this summer.

According to the TBT press statement, businessman and philanthropist Adam Weitsman is back this summer as the chairman of Boeheim's Army. He served in that role in 2021 when Boeheim's Army captured the $1 million event. I'm glad that Adam is once again serving as the team's chairman.

"We’re excited to have TBT to come back to Syracuse," Jim Boeheim said in the announcement. "We really missed it last summer. It’s such a fun tournament, and it’s really great when you win like we did a few years ago. People in Syracuse really enjoy it."

Speaking of Jim Boeheim, some social media posts in recent days suggested that perhaps he's considering the possibility of coaching Boeheim's Army this summer. That would be unbelievably awesome, and I hope that transpires.

The winner of the Syracuse regional will head to the TBT quarterfinals on July 29, with the semifinals on July 31 and the title game on August 3. From the press release: "For the first time, TBT will give each host team the opportunity to have home court advantage for the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the $1 million championship game. Should two regional hosts face off, the tie breaker will be determined by which host sells 4,000 tickets the fastest. Tickets will go on sale May 6."

Fun things.
