Buddy Buckets is joining Boeheim's Army this summer, and that's all kind of awesome.

Former Syracuse basketball star shooting guard Buddy Boeheim, a top-15 scorer in the history of the Orange program, has committed to suit up for Boeheim's Army during this summer's The Basketball Tournament ("TBT"). It will mark Boeheim's debut in the TBT, a 64-team, $1 million winner-take-all event.

Fun.

The TBT, via its X page, disclosed Boeheim's commitment to the team that bears his name on Thursday. Boeheim's Army, a collection of former Syracuse basketball standouts and other players who will vie to bring a second TBT crown to Central New York, is named after the legendary Hall of Famer Jim Boeheim, who retired as the Orange's long-time head coach in March of 2023.

Former Syracuse basketball guard Buddy Boeheim has signed on with Boeheim's Army.

Boeheim's Army, which won the whole thing in 2021, has also announced one other member of its 2025 roster, and that's another former Syracuse basketball star, wing Elijah Hughes. During the most recent season, both Hughes and Buddy Boeheim played in the NBA's G League.

Hughes was a member of the Cleveland Charge, while Boeheim competed for the Oklahoma City Blue. Per his bio on nba.com, in the 2024-25 campaign, Boeheim appeared in 24 games. He averaged 24.7 minutes, 10.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest while making 34.3 percent from the field, 33.7 percent beyond the arc and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line.

But, as Hall of Fame reporter Donna Ditota with Syracuse.com wrote in a piece, "Boeheim ... dealt with an injury to the thumb on his shooting hand for about three months and acknowledged it affected his shooting stroke."

I'd imagine that additional members of the Boeheim's Army 2025 roster will get unveiled soon. One of the eight TBT regional sites will be in Syracuse this summer at the SRC Arena on the campus of Onondaga Community College.

Businessman and philanthropist Adam Weitsman is back in 2025 as chairman of Boeheim's Army, a role that he was also in when the team captured the $1 million grand prize back in 2021.

Per a post on X from Boeheim's Army, it appears that tickets are now on sale for the Syracuse regional, which will take place from July 19 to July 23.

I want to quickly note that the addition of Buddy Boeheim is huge. Historically, while Boeheim's Army has done well in the TBT, the squad has often struggled with its outside shooting. Buddy Boeheim, by extension, finished his 'Cuse tenure as one of the most prolific 3-point shooters ever at Syracuse basketball.
