One of the assistants with Syracuse basketball will lead Boeheim's Army this summer.
Boeheim's Army, a collection of former Orange standouts and other players suiting up in the $1 million winner-take-all The Basketball Tournament ("TBT"), said via X that its head coach for the 2025 version of this annual event will be Syracuse basketball assistant coach Allen Griffin.
I'm all about it. Griffin has served as a 'Cuse assistant since the spring of 2017. When he played for Syracuse basketball, Griffin's four Orange squads all made the NCAA Tournament, and the 'Cuse was 98-36 during that span.
A huge congrats to Allen! He's a great choice to be the head coach of Boeheim's Army this summer, as the group tries to win the 64-team tournament for a second time.
Boeheim's Army is shaping up nicely for the 2025 TBT.
Not too long ago, long-time former Syracuse basketball boss and Hall of Famer Jim Boeheim was named the head coach emeritus of Boeheim's Army, the team that bears his name. The chairman of Boeheim's Army this summer is businessman and philanthropist Adam Weitsman, who was in that role back in 2021 when Boeheim's Army cut down the nets and claimed the $1 million.
The Boeheim's Army roster, so far, includes a quartet of former Syracuse basketball players: shooting guard Buddy Boeheim, wing Elijah Hughes, big man Chris McCullough and fellow big man Rakeem Christmas.
Obviously, Boeheim's Army will be adding more players to its roster for the summer, but those four represent a solid foundation. Buddy Buckets is a strong 3-point threat. Hughes is a versatile wing who can score in various ways. Both McCullough and Christmas give Boeheim's Army a solid inside presence.
Syracuse will host a TBT regional in 2025 that will occur from July 19 to July 23 at the SRC Arena on the campus of Onondaga Community College.
Hopefully, Boeheim's Army, which should have a great home-court advantage, will prevail in the Syracuse regional and advance to the TBT quarterfinals on July 29. The event's semifinals are on July 31, with the championship game scheduled for August 3.
I'll certainly monitor and keep all my fellow 'Cuse fans up to date as Boeheim's Army makes more announcements regarding its roster this summer. Stay tuned for that.
