Syracuse basketball's two-member 2027 class is in the top 15 around the country following a recent pledge by five-star wing/small forward Moussa Kamissoko from the Bronx, N.Y.
When I wrote this column, the Orange's 2027 cycle checked in at No. 13 nationally, per 247Sports. Over at Rivals, the 'Cuse 2027 class is No. 19 overall. Both recruiting services currently have this SU two-member 2027 cycle at No. 1 within the Atlantic Coast Conference, but that will likely change as other league schools add commitments from high school seniors.
Kamissoko, a senior at the Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio, verbally committed to the Orange late last month after taking an official visit to Syracuse basketball in early September. He is a massive recruiting win for first-year head coach Gerry McNamara and his staff.
Within the 2027 class, the 6-foot-8, 180-pound Kamissoko is in the top 15 nationwide, according to both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking. His highest individual ranking comes via Rivals, which has him at No. 7 overall in the senior cycle.
Syracuse basketball, to date, has one of the country's top 2027 classes.
In SU's senior class, Kamissoko is joined by three-star wing and Albany, N.Y., product Jack Donohue, who attends The Newman School in Boston. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound Donohue, who pledged to the Orange in August, is a sharpshooting prospect who missed 10 months of action because of open-heart surgery that he had in 2025.
The Rivals Industry Ranking has Donohue at No. 207 nationally, No. 33 at power forward and No. 6 in Massachusetts. Analysts and scouts have told Inside the Loud House that Donohue, with a strong senior year at Newman, projects as a four-star prospect.
Now, while Syracuse basketball's 2027 class is in the top 20 for the moment, according to both main recruiting services, that might not hold. For one, as I already mentioned, other teams will soon pick up their own five-star commitments.
Secondly, as Inside the Loud House has reported, the 'Cuse 2027 cycle could end up being only two members. The SU staff has remained in contact with four-star wing/forward Ahmed Nur out of CIA Bella Vista in Phoenix; however, my sense is that he's probably headed to another college team.
Should the Orange's 2027 class stay at two members, it's highly likely that it will fall outside the top 20 nationally, due to other squads ultimately having bigger senior cycles. That's totally okay, though.
Syracuse basketball was always going to have a small 2027 class at the prep level, since its current roster is at the maximum of 15 players, and all of them can return for another season amid the NCAA's new 5-for-5 eligibility model.
Plus, the 'Cuse coaching staff will rely on transfer portal recruiting and international markets to fill out its 2027-28 roster. Either way, I think Syracuse basketball landed two terrific prospects in Kamissoko and Donohue.
