Kaidon Salter, one of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal who had visited Syracuse football over the weekend, has signed with Big 12 Conference member Colorado and its head coach, ace recruiter Deion Sanders, according to multiple media reports.
Recent media reports had indicated Salter's recruitment via the portal could end up boiling down to a battle between Sanders and the Orange, which is led by first-year head coach Fran Brown and his top-flight staff.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Salter, who hails from Texas, is a redshirt junior at Conference USA member Liberty. Reports on December 2 stated that Salter planned to enter the portal, and he has one season of collegiate eligibility left.
The current transfer portal window, by the way, opened on December 9 and will run through December 28. To date, Brown and his assistants have landed at least two commitments from college transfers, while hosting a variety of portal prospects on visits to the Hill.
While the Orange didn't prevail Salter, I'm wishing Kaidon nothing but great success in his 2025 campaign with the Buffaloes!
Several transfer quarterbacks have visited Syracuse football of late.
When I wrote this article on Wednesday, in its national transfer ratings, the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking placed Salter at No. 82 overall and No. 11 at quarterback.
In the 2024 season for the Flames, Salter completed 56.3 percent of his passes for 1,886 yards with 15 touchdowns against just six interceptions. He also rushed 114 times for 587 yards and seven scores on the ground.
Besides Salter, Virginia sophomore quarterback Anthony Colandrea, also a four-star transfer prospect, visited the 'Cuse this past weekend. Colandrea was visiting Ole Miss on Wednesday, according to a post on X from On3 college sports business and transfer portal reporter Pete Nakos.
LSU redshirt freshman quarterback Rickie Collins, a three-star transfer prospect, visited Syracuse football on December 10.
While a couple of transfer quarterbacks have visited the Orange, it remains to be seen if Brown and his staff will ultimately land a signal-caller via the portal to be the presumed starter for the program in the 2025 term, similar to Syracuse football record-setting quarterback Kyle McCord, who transferred to the 'Cuse from Ohio State for his senior year during the 2024 campaign.
In 2025, the Orange's quarterback room, putting transfers aside for the moment, could include redshirt senior Michael Johnson Jr., who has received a hardship waiver from the NCAA to be eligible to play next year, along with underclassmen Jakhari Williams, Luke Carney and Rich Belin. Carney and Belin, both rated three stars, will be incoming freshmen in 2025.
