J'Lon "Lonnie" Lyons, the DMV four-star point guard and Syracuse basketball 2027 priority target, is off the board.
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound Lyons, a top-50 national prospect in the high school senior class, verbally committed to Big East Conference member Butler on Tuesday afternoon, three sources confirmed to Inside the Loud House.
Lyons had been one of several 2027 priority recruits for the Orange. He was first offered a scholarship by the former SU staff under then-head coach Adrian Autry in June 2025. Syracuse basketball first-year head coach Gerry McNamara and his assistants, since taking over the 'Cuse program this past March, continued to push hard for Lyons, who is a senior at the Clinton Grace Christian School in Clinton, Md.

Lyons had a top seven of Syracuse, Butler, Georgetown, Maryland, Tennessee, VCU and Virginia, where Autry is now an assistant coach. Butler had offered a scholarship this past May to Lyons, who this spring and summer in grassroots hoops played for the 17U team of the Washington, D.C.-based Team Takeover in Nike's EYBL league.
A source confirms to Inside the Loud House that Lyons will no longer officially visit SU from September 11 to September 13.
What's next for Syracuse basketball in the 2027 cycle?
With Lyons off the board, the Orange's priority targets in the high school senior class, per a source, are five-star point guard Nasir Anderson, five-star wing/forward Ahmed Nur, five-star wing/small forward Moussa Kamissoko and four-star wing/forward Ian Condon.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Anderson, out of Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., dropped a top 10 last weekend that includes the 'Cuse. Syracuse basketball coaches want to get him on the Hill for an official visit at some point, Inside the Loud House has reported.
The 6-foot-9, 190-pound Nur, who will spend his senior season at the 2025-26 national champions CIA Bella Vista in Phoenix, is taking an official visit to the Hill that begins on Wednesday, a source confirms to Inside the Loud House.
The 6-foot-8, 180-pound Kamissoko, who currently attends Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y., will take an official visit to the Orange from September 3 to September 4, Inside the Loud House reported late last week.
The 6-foot-7, 245-pound Condon, a senior at the Sidwell Friends School in D.C., will take an official visit to Syracuse basketball from September 1 to September 2, as Inside the Loud House first reported in mid-July.
While not 2027 priority recruits for Syracuse basketball, four-star guard Devin Cleveland from Chicago has the Orange in his top seven, while four-star wing Carson Crawford from Florida has the 'Cuse in his top five.
