When former Syracuse basketball star point guard Gerry McNamara was hired as the Orange's new head coach, he called 2026 four-star point guard Ryan Moesch right away.

"I have a great connection with him," Moesch said ofMcNamara, according to an article from Syracuse.com's Donna Ditota. "He’s why I picked Siena over some other opportunities. When he got the SU job, I knew that’s where I wanted to be."

Moesch had signed with Siena, the New York program that McNamara had led for the past two seasons, in November of 2025. Moesch was the Saints' highest-ranked commit in team history.

However, last month, McNamara was hired by his alma mater as the Orange's next head coach, replacing another former SU player, Adrian Autry. Understandably, with McNamara no longer at Siena's helm, the 6-foot, 170-pound Moesch requested a release from his signing with Siena, and that request was granted.

The chatter, of late, is that Moesch was going to flip his commitment from the Saints to Syracuse basketball, and that happened on Tuesday, when the top-15 point guard in the 2026 class revealed via social media that he had pledged to the Orange.

Four-star PG Ryan Moesch will don a Syracuse basketball uniform next season.

Moesch has played for the Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass., over the past two seasons. Before that, he was a standout at Chittenango High School in Chittenango, N.Y., which is about 20 miles from Syracuse.

With Moesch on board, McNamara and his assistants have now landed two four-star prospects in the 2026 prep class, the other being Slovenian wing Mark Morano Mahmutovic.

The Orange's cadre of guards looks promising for the 2026-27 season. How much court time Moesch will see as a freshman on the Hill remains to be seen, but he did note to Syracuse.com, "(McNamara) said I was going to be in the rotation."

“I’m gonna definitely have to fight for how many minutes I have," Moesch said. "I mean, I’m willing to do really anything to play as a freshman. I trust Gerry. He’s going to put me in the best spot."

I've written about Moesch a handful of times over the past year or so. The former Syracuse basketball staff was showing an interest in him, although I don't think that he picked up a formal scholarship offer.

That's in the past, and Moesch is now part of the 'Cuse family. He's a talented, underrated point guard who could make an impact as a freshman.
