Transfer guard Hudson Mayes, a freshman at Big West Conference school UC San Diego, plans to visit Syracuse basketball and several other college programs in the next week, according to a post on X from CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.

Rothstein reports that other teams Mayes is eyeing upcoming visits to include Baylor, Oregon State and New Mexico. On Saturday, four-star transfer guard Aiden Tobiason, a sophomore at American Conference member Temple, visited the Orange, per 247Sports national analyst Dushawn London.

Mayes has excellent size for a guard, at 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds. He hails from Los Angeles, and in the 2025-26 campaign, Mayes was an All-Big West honorable mention performer. By the way, his dad, Derrick Mayes, played in the NFL, and his grandfather, Roger Brown, played in the ABA and is a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

Syracuse basketball is planning to get a visit from transfer guard Hudson Mayes.

In 2025-26, UC San Diego went 23-11 overall. As a freshman, Mayes averaged 23.8 minutes, 11.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.0 steals per game while making 54.5 percent from the field, 35.5 percent from 3-point land and 79.8 percent from the free-throw line.

As a prep recruit in the 2025 class, Mayes was a three-star prospect out of Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, Calif., which is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. He averaged 16.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game as a senior.

The industry-generated 247Sports Composite, within the 2025 cycle, placed Mayes at No. 432 overall, No. 75 at shooting guard and No. 35 in California.

Here is the latest on the Orange's 2026-27 roster amid the transfer portal opening on April 7 and running through April 21. Freshman guard Kiyan Anthony and freshman forward Sadiq White Jr. will be back next season.

SU also has pledges from three transfers and one 2026 prep recruit. They are:
•Siena sophomore guard Gavin Doty, a four-star transfer prospect
•Siena junior big man Tasman Goodrick
•McNeese State junior guard Garwey Dual, a four-star transfer prospect
•Slovenian wing Mark Morano Mahmutovic, a four-star player in the 2026 class

I'll certainly monitor if and when Mayes takes a visit to the Hill.
