Syracuse basketball has added to its back-court for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

Per multiple reports on Saturday afternoon, the Orange has landed a commitment from McNeese State junior Garwey Dual, a four-star combo guard in the transfer portal. I had written about Dual a few days ago, stating that 'Cuse fans should monitor him amid the portal opening on April 7 and running through April 21.

A huge congrats and welcome from Orange Nation to Garwey, who hails from Houston and is an excellent defender, earning Southland Conference honors in that regard during the 2025-26 stanza.

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Garwey, before McNeese State, played for Big East Conference members Seton Hall and Providence.

Four-star transfer guard Garwey Dual has pledged to Syracuse basketball.

In 2025-26, McNeese State went 28-6 overall and reached this spring's NCAA Tournament. In the Big Dance's first round, the No. 12 seed Cowboys fell to No. 5 seed Vanderbilt, 78-68, although Dual was awesome, finishing with 16 points, six assists, three rebounds, one steal and one block.

As a junior at McNeese State, Dual averaged 8.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game while connecting on 45.6 percent from the field, 31.6 percent from 3-point range and 76.4 percent from the free-throw line. He was named to the Southland Conference's All-Defensive team in 2025-26.

On Saturday, in national transfer ratings from the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking, Dual checked in as four stars, No. 79 overall and No. 8 at combo guard.

As a prep recruit in the 2023 class out of the SoCal Academy in Castaic, Calif., near Los Angeles, Dual was rated four stars, No. 38 nationally, No. 3 at shooting guard and No. 9 in California, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

New Syracuse basketball head coach Gerry McNamara, who led Siena the past two stanzas, and his staff are busy constructing their 2026-27 roster amid the portal being open for business. The Orange's roster for the upcoming campaign includes two returnees in freshmen Kiyan Anthony (guard) and Sadiq White Jr. (power forward).

From a commitment standpoint, beyond Dual, McNamara and his assistants have landed two Siena transfers, four-star sophomore guard Gavin Doty and junior big man Tasman Goodrick, along with Slovenian wing Mark Morano Mahmutovic, a four-star prospect in the 2026 class.
