Syracuse football has had a solid recruiting day on Thursday.
The Orange has picked up its second 2027 verbal commit, as four-star wide receiver Chanin Harris announced his pledge to the 'Cuse on Thursday afternoon. A huge congrats from Orange Nation to Chanin!
Earlier on Thursday, Syracuse football also scored a verbal commitment from 2027 defensive lineman Edan Richardson, who will spend his senior year at Archbishop McCarthy High School in Southwest Ranches, Fla.
Both Richardson and Harris were among the 2027 players who took official visits to the 'Cuse from May 29 to May 31, with more official visits planned by rising high school seniors this coming weekend and for two additional weekends later this month.
Syracuse football is on a recruiting heater.
Harris's decision to play for Orange head coach Fran Brown and his staff isn't a surprise. Leading up to his commitment announcement on Thursday afternoon, there were several analyst predictions in SU's direction for Harris between 247Sports and Rivals.
Not too long ago, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound Harris dropped a top four of Syracuse football, Big Ten Conference squad Wisconsin and fellow Atlantic Coast Conference groups Virginia and Virginia Tech. It's always a delight to see the 'Cuse prevail for high school players over other ACC foes.
Harris had set official visits over the next few weeks to his other three finalists. It's not clear to me whether he will still take those trips. In 2025, as Byrnes went 8-4 overall, Harris hauled in 44 catches for 648 yards with seven receiving touchdowns, according to MaxPreps.
The Syracuse football staff, led by Brown and wide receivers coach Josh Gattis, first offered a scholarship to Harris in late April of this year, and they've built a strong relationship with the speedy 2027 wide receiver ever since.
Within the 2027 class, most recruiting services have Harris as a high-three-star prospect, although he's four stars and the No. 43 wide receiver, per ESPN. The industry-generated rating systems, the 247Sports Composite and the Rivals Industry Ranking, place Harris as a top-75 wide receiver and a top-15 prospect from South Carolina.
Nationally speaking, the 247Sports Composite has him at No. 610, while the Rivals Industry Ranking puts Harris at No. 509. With his pledge, Syracuse football now has 15 verbal commits in a 2027 class that is No. 32 overall on the 247Sports Web site and No. 37 nationally, according to Rivals.
