As NFL teams conduct their preseason training camps, things are looking good for former Syracuse football running back LeQuint Allen Jr. to see the field for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the upcoming season.

ESPN's Dan Graziano, in a recent piece, wrote in part: "And seventh-round rookie LeQuint Allen Jr. is a player they (the Jaguars) see evolving into a third-down back due to his pass-catching and pass protection abilities."

The 6-foot, 201-pound Allen, who had a terrific past two seasons with the Orange, was selected in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Jaguars, at No. 236 overall.

Jacksonville, which hopes to improve on its awful 4-13 record last season, does have multiple running backs on its 2025 roster, including Travis Etienne Jr., Tank Bigsby, Bhayshul Tuten and Allen, the New Jersey native who showed prowess as a junior with the 'Cuse for his rushing and catching skills.

Writes Graziano: "The Jaguars plan to keep four running backs and to use a committee approach there as well."

Former Syracuse football running back LeQuint Allen Jr. can have a solid NFL career.

That Allen appears to have a niche carved out with Jacksonville in his rookie term bodes well for his longer-term pro tenure. In 2024, he was an honorable mention All-ACC performer at both running back and as an all-purpose player.

The prior year, as a sophomore in 2023, Allen resided on the All-ACC second team after he rushed for 1,064 yards and nine scores. Statistically, as a junior in 2024, Allen proved even better, helping lead Syracuse football to a 10-3 mark and a No. 20 national ranking in the final Associated Press top-25 poll.

Last year, Allen tallied 1,021 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground. He also hauled in 521 passing yards and four more scores through the air, making Allen one of the most dynamic offensive players in the country.

In the upcoming stanza for Syracuse football, as my colleague Bryan Zarpentine wrote about a few days ago, the Orange will have big shoes to fill in trying to replace Allen's 2024 production.

Earlier this week, Syracuse football running backs Will Nixon, a redshirt senior, and Yasin Willis, a sophomore, received inclusion on the preseason watch list for the 2025 Doak Walker Award, which every year honors the country's top running back.
