Syracuse football 2025 three-star commit Luke Carney has put forth a stellar career for his Texas high school, and the talented quarterback is doing more of the same as a senior in the current 2024 season.
In late March, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound Carney verbally committed to the Orange after receiving a scholarship offer from first-year head coach Fran Brown and his top-flight staff in late January of this year.
Carney picked the 'Cuse over scholarship offers from more than two dozen other college squads. To date, he's one of two quarterbacks verbally pledged to Syracuse football in its 2025 class. The other is three-star signal-caller Rich Belin out of Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, N.Y., who verbally committed to the Orange in late June of this year.
Both are exceptional 2025 quarterbacks, and I adamantly believe that Carney and Belin are vastly under-rated in the high school senior cycle.
I always acknowledge that I'm a homer when it comes to my alma mater, Syracuse University. However, for the life of me, I can't understand how Carney, given his ridiculous high school career, isn't rated a four-star prospect by recruiting services.
Syracuse football 2025 3-star QB commit Luke Carney is having a strong senior year.
Carney is a standout with the Dallas Christian School in Mesquite, Texas. Per a post on his X page from early January of this year, through his junior term at Dallas Christian, he had compiled a 39-3 overall record and three state titles.
Collectively, prior to his senior year, he had completed 73.4 percent of his passes for 10,203 yards and 112 touchdowns, with only 16 interceptions.
Those are video game numbers, I might add. In any event, as he's working his way through the 2024 campaign, Carney has eclipsed 12,000 career passing yards.
As Dallas Christian prepares to host the McKinney Christian Academy from McKinney, Texas, this Friday, on homecoming, Carney and his Chargers' teammates are 6-2 overall so far in the 2024 season, per MaxPreps.
In a recent piece, the Web site Six Star Football highlighted several top quarterback prospects who hail from the Dallas area, including Carney. That story said in part, "As a three-time state champion, Carney has shown time and again that he thrives under pressure and excels in big-game situations. His ability to command the offense, paired with his high football IQ, makes him an invaluable asset. Academically, Carney is just as impressive, maintaining a 4.1 GPA while earning ESPN Plus All-American honors, demonstrating his discipline both on and off the field. Now committed to Syracuse, Carney brings a wealth of experience and proven success to the next level. His blend of size, arm strength, accuracy, and leadership makes him one of the most exciting quarterback prospects to watch in the 2025 class."
As a senior to date, according to his bio on the MaxPreps Web site, Carney is completing 74.7 percent of his passes for 1,806 yards, or 225.8 yards per game, with eight touchdowns and just one interception.
Take a look at his rushing numbers, too. Carney has carried the ball 55 times for 636 yards and a whopping 16 scores on the ground. He's averaging 11.6 yards per carry and 79.5 rushing yards per contest.
Despite all of his winning and all of his production, Rivals.com currently has the highest quarterback ranking for Carney within the 2025 class, at No. 33. To reiterate, I'm a homer and I'm also not a recruiting analyst, but based on what Carney has achieved, he deserves to be ranked four stars and a top-25 quarterback in the senior cycle.
