Southeastern Conference school LSU and its new head coach, former Ole Miss boss Lane Kiffin, are reportedly interested in hiring Syracuse football assistant coach Elijah Robinson, according to a report from FootballScoop.
Per an article from Scott Roussel, who is the president of FootballScoop, LSU wants to hire Robinson to focus on the Tigers' defensive line. Robinson has ties to the SEC. Before joining the Orange, he was the defensive line coach and an ace recruiter at Texas A&M. When Aggies' head coach Jimbo Fisher was fired, Robinson became the interim head coach.
In early December of 2023, SU Athletics named Fran Brown as the next head coach of Syracuse football. Brown hired Robinson, his dear childhood friend from growing up together in Camden, N.J., as the Orange's defensive coordinator.
In the 2024 season, Syracuse football went 10-3 overall, reaching double-digit victories for the first time since 2018 and earning a final No. 20 national ranking in the Associated Press top 25. However, in 2025, the team went just 3-9, lost eight straight to end the term, and the Orange's defense, simply put, was not good.
Syracuse football assistant Elijah Robinson could potentially be on the move back to the SEC.
On December 1, Brown announced that assistants who would not be retained in the 2026 season included special teams coordinator Ricky Brumfield, offensive line coach Dale Williams, defensive backs coach Joe Schaefer and co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Robert Wright.
Also, Robinson was, in essence, demoted to a new role as the 'Cuse co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach. The expectation is that Brown will hire a new defensive coordinator who will handle the play-calling duties.
"The results this season were not reflective of the high standards I have for our program," Brown said in a statement released by SU Athletics on December 1. "After carefully evaluating our entire organization, I made the difficult decision to seek new leadership for some units of our football team. These are the changes needed for our goals of competing for championships at Syracuse."
Would Robinson want to take another job after losing his play-calling duties on the Hill? Perhaps. If he does bolt, I wish him nothing but great success moving forward. Last month, Josh Gattis, a quality control/offensive specialist, took over as the Orange's wide receivers coach, as Myles White was no longer with the Syracuse football program.
Brown, in early November, also said that offensive associate head coach Nunzio Campanile would go from coaching the quarterbacks to coaching the tight ends. Co-offensive coordinator Michael Johnson, meanwhile, has shifted from tight ends coach to quarterbacks coach.
