On Tuesday night, word broke that 2027 three-star running back Tylek Lewis from Louisiana had verbally committed to Syracuse football. A source confirmed this news to me after 247Sports had first reported Lewis' pledge to SU.

The 6-foot, 210-pound Lewis, a standout at Zachary High School in Zachary, La., had taken an official visit to the Orange in early June. He also had recently gone on official visits to Arkansas and West Virginia, according to recruiting services.

In the 2025 campaign, Lewis rushed for 1,129 yards and 21 touchdowns as Zachary went 9-4 overall. His full scholarship offer sheet included schools such as West Virginia, Arkansas, Arizona, Kansas State, South Alabama, South Florida, Louisiana, Old Dominion, Tulane and UTEP, among others.

The industry-generated 247Sports Composite places Lewis as a high-three-star prospect. He is No. 634 nationally, No. 41 at running back and No. 19 in Louisiana within the 2027 class.

Lewis is a terrific pick-up for Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown and his staff. And on Friday, the 'Cuse is hoping to score its second 2027 running back of the week.

Syracuse football's 2027 class is in the top 35 nationally.

On Friday, July 3, Elijah Kimble, a 2027 four-star running back, will make his college decision known. The Orange has analyst buzz for the top-300 national prospect out of Canisius High School in Buffalo, N.Y.

After Lewis verbally committed to Syracuse football on Tuesday night, a source told me that his pledge doesn't impact the Orange's pursuit of the 5-foot-10, 185-pound Kimble, who is the No. 1 player from New York state in the 2027 class. I'm also told that the Syracuse football staff feels good about its chances to land Kimble on Friday.

Kimble has taken official visits to Indiana, North Carolina and the 'Cuse. He also took an unofficial visit to Syracuse football last month, a source confirmed to me at that time. In 2025, Kimble rushed for 1,726 yards and 23 scores on the ground.

Not too long ago, 2027 four-star running back Xavier Bala from the Empire State and 2027 three-star running back Sa'Nir Brooks from Baltimore both de-committed from Syracuse football, with Bala flipping to fellow Atlantic Coast Conference school Boston College.

Understandably, some SU fans were a little bummed when Bala and Brooks moved on from the 'Cuse, but let me be clear. While I wish those guys well, Syracuse football landing Lewis and (hopefully) Kimble sets the program up well in the RB department within its 2027 cycle.

The Orange has 23 verbal commitments so far in a 2027 class that is No. 33 around the country, per 247Sports.
