Nothing is for certain in the recruiting world, but Syracuse football appears to be in great shape with 2027 four-star running back Elijah Kimble, who is the No. 1 prospect in New York state within his class, according to several recruiting services.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Kimble, who ran for more than 1,700 yards as a junior, said via his X page that he plans to make his commitment announcement on July 3. When I wrote this column on Wednesday morning, there were two predictions in the Orange's direction for Kimble on the 247Sports Web site.

That's an encouraging sign. Kimble took an official visit to the Hill from May 29 to May 31. He is expected to unofficially visit Syracuse football this coming weekend, a source confirms to me. News of Kimble's unofficial visit to SU was first reported by 247Sports.

The Orange's pursuit of Kimble comes at a time when there's a lot going on with SU's 2027 class as a whole, and also at the running back position. Not too long ago, Syracuse football 2027 RB pledges Xavier Bala from New York state and Sa'Nir Brooks from Baltimore announced that they had de-committed from the Orange, with Bala flipping to fellow Atlantic Coast Conference school Boston College.
Besides Kimble, the 'Cuse staff is also high on 2027 three-star running back Tylek Lewis out of Zachary High School in Zachary, La., who took an official visit to Syracuse football from June 5 to June 7. As a junior in the 2025 campaign, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound Lewis rushed for 1,129 yards and 21 touchdowns, according to his bio on 247Sports.
DART: 2027 three-star safety Jalen Welch out of Grayson High School in Loganville, Ga., has verbally committed to Syracuse football. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Welch took an official visit to the Orange this past weekend. Congrats and welcome, @JalenWelch08! 🧡 https://t.co/wXcif3R1qa
