Syracuse Football: It's super early, but SU off to a strong start with its 2027 class

In recent days, Syracuse football landed its third verbal pledge in its 2027 cycle. That's impressive, from my perspective, given that prospects in this class are only in their sophomore years of high school.

In fact, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite says that the Orange's 2027 class ranks No. 4 around the country.

Naturally, it's super early for this cycle, so things will ebb and flow. Yet high school sophomores are high on 'Cuse head coach Fran Brown and his top-flight staff.

Not too long ago, defensive back Travis Miles out of Hillside High School in Hillside, N.J., revealed on social media that he was verbally committing to the Orange. As we all know by now, several members of the Syracuse football staff, including Brown, hail from New Jersey, and the Garden State is a heavy recruiting focus for the program.

A huge congrats and welcome from Orange Nation to Travis. The 6-foot-4, 183-pound Miles, in an interview with recruiting analyst Charles Kang of The Juice Online, said in part, "I love the Cuse. It’s great coaching and great people."

Currently, I'm not seeing any national rankings for Miles from the primary recruiting services, but that absolutely could change down the line.

Syracuse football has two other verbal pledges in its 2027 class.

The 'Cuse first got on the board in this cycle last June when athlete Tank White verbally committed to Syracuse football. The 6-foot, 180-pound White spent his sophomore season at Cocoa High School in Cocoa, Fla., which is an elite program in the Sunshine State.

On3, at the time of this writing, rated White as three stars and the No. 23 athlete within the 2027 class.

In late November of 2024, quarterback Justin Dixon said that he would verbally pledge to the 'Cuse. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Dixon is a sophomore at the Concordia Preparatory School in Towson, Md.

Both On3 and Rivals.com have Dixon as a three-star prospect. Additionally, within the 2027 cycle, On3 places Dixon as the No. 40 quarterback and the No. 9 player from Maryland in his class.

I readily acknowledge that the Orange's 2027 class has a long way to go until we get a better sense of just how awesome it, hopefully, can be. At the same time, one can't help but feel encouraged by what Brown and his assistants have done thus far with their 2027 cycle.
