Syracuse football 'gonna be big time in a few years,' new 2027 commit Tank White says
By Neil Adler
Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown and his top-flight staff are on the board with their 2027 class.
On Friday, talented athlete Tank White from Florida revealed via his X page that he has verbally committed to the Orange.
The 6-foot, 180-pound White, who says he plays wide receiver, free safety and defensive back, attends Melbourne Central Catholic High School in Melbourne, Fla.
It should be noted that 'Cuse coaches have made the Sunshine State a priority in their recruiting efforts, as two of the team's verbal commits in the 2026 cycle also hail from Florida.
A huge congrats and welcome from Orange Nation to Tank!
Syracuse football continues to recruit at a high level across various classes.
In early April, White said on his X page that he had picked up a scholarship offer from the 'Cuse. Per his X account and recruiting services, his early offer sheet also includes schools such as Pittsburgh, Boston College, UCF, West Virginia, USF and Penn State.
According to a report from top 247Sports analyst Mike McAllister, White visited Syracuse football in April around the time that he was offered, and he also competed at a recent Orange camp.
White said in part to McAllister, "I see what coach Fran sees and what he's trying to build. I see the image he sees. Me seeing that and building that type of bond. Seeing what he's trying to build, I can add on to that in a couple years. Especially after this upcoming year, I know it's going to be better than these past years. So that's what really made me commit."
According to the 247Sports article, White has been friends for many years with four-star athlete/defensive back Demetres Samuel Jr. out of Heritage High School in Palm Bay, Fla., who is verbally committed to the 'Cuse in its 2026 class.
In an interview with analyst Charles Kang of The Juice Online, White said in part, "Syracuse is gonna be big time in a few years. I want to get locked in early. I see what coach Fran sees in Syracuse."
To date, Brown and his staff have secured at least 19 verbal commitments in their 2025 cycle, a class that hovers between the top 10 and the top 15 nationally, according to multiple recruiting services.
The team's 2026 cycle, with at least three verbal pledges, was No. 3 around the country when I wrote this column on Saturday, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.
