As Syracuse football hosts non-conference foe UConn this Saturday, there is a wide range of recruits on the Hill for official or unofficial visits, and one of those targets could prove on commitment watch.
Kaylib Singleton, a four-star, top-35 defensive back in the 2025 class who hails from Florida and de-committed from Big Ten Conference school Rutgers about a month ago, is officially visiting the Orange this weekend. On Friday, I came across at least four predictions in the direction of the 'Cuse for Singleton on Rivals.com.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Singleton, who also runs track and field, is a senior at Oakleaf High School in Orange Park, Fla., not far from Jacksonville. As I've noted in numerous columns over the past few months, the Syracuse football staff, led by first-year head coach Fran Brown, is recruiting the Sunshine State extremely hard these days.
Per recruiting Web sites, Singleton has received roughly two dozen offers from college squads such as Florida, Rutgers, Boston College, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, UCF, West Virginia and USF, among others.
The 'Cuse offered a scholarship to Singleton on March 9 of this year.
Syracuse football has analyst buzz for 2025 four-star DB Kaylib Singleton.
On Friday, Rivals.com national analyst John Garcia Jr. published an in-depth piece on why he likes the Orange to prevail for Singleton. The Rivals.com expert wrote in part, "Known for his wheels after clocking a 10.5-second 100 meter dash mark last spring, Singleton has become a versatile football prospect with reps on offense at wide receiver and on defense as both a cornerback and safety to his name as a senior."
With the early signing period for 2025 prospects running from December 4 through December 6, the Orange at this juncture has at least 30 verbal pledges in the senior cycle, a class that is inside the top 40 around the country, according to several recruiting services.
In late September, 2025 four-star athlete/defensive back Demetres Samuel Jr. of Heritage High School in Palm Bay, Fla., who is a top-150 national prospect, flipped his verbal commitment back to Syracuse football from Florida.
The 'Cuse is a significant contender for 2025 five-star edge and top-20 national prospect Javion Hilson of Cocoa High School in Cocoa, Fla., who officially visited the Orange earlier this month and had a great experience in Central New York, analysts say.
Also recently, 2025 four-star wide receiver and top-100 national prospect Winston Watkins Jr. of Venice High School in Venice, Fla., included Syracuse football in his final eight contenders.
