I saw this one coming.

Per his social media, 2027 five-star point guard King Gibson from Greensboro, N.C., has picked up a scholarship offer from the new Syracuse basketball staff, led by first-year head coach and former Orange legendary point guard Gerry McNamara.

A huge congrats to King!

The 6-foot-6 Gibson has received interest from the Orange in the past, dating back to last summer, after the 2027 contact period opened on June 15, enabling Syracuse basketball coaches and their peers to initiate direct communication with prospects in the high school junior class.

This weekend, it's a live period on the AAU circuits, and the 'Cuse coaching staff is checking out players. It wouldn't surprise me at all if SU coaches are in for Gibson on Nike's EYBL circuit.

Syracuse basketball has offered several highly ranked 2027 prospects.

Besides watching Gibson in grassroots hoops and other upcoming showcase events, the Orange staff will want to get him on the Hill for a visit at some point. Gibson is a top-10 national prospect in his class, and the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking has him at No. 2 overall in the 2027 cycle.

He's also deemed the No. 1 combo guard in his class, per multiple recruiting services, although Gibson views himself as a point guard. Either way, this young man can ball.

In the 2025-26 campaign, Gibson was a first-team All-American in the 2027 class, per MaxPreps. He helped lead the Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio., to an appearance in the Chipotle Nationals and a top-five national finish, according to media outlets such as ESPN and MaxPreps.

Spire, a member of the loaded 20-team Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic ("EYBL Scholastic"), went 29-5 overall and 11-3 in EYBL Scholastic regular-season competition. The powerhouse program is led by Kevin Boyle, who previously won several national championships at another juggernaut team, the Montverde Academy in Montverde, Fla.

During EYBL Scholastic play, Gibson averaged 15.0 points, 3.7 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while connecting on 47 percent from the field, 46 percent from beyond the arc and 80 percent from the free-throw line.

This spring and summer in Nike's EYBL league for grassroots hoops, Gibson is suiting up for the 17U squad of the Charlotte, N.C.-based Team United, whose roster also includes 2027 four-star shooting guard RJ Moore, 2027 four-star wing Markus Kerr and 2027 five-star power forward CJ Rosser.

Late last month, the new Syracuse basketball staff offered Moore. Orange coaches are also in regular contact with Kerr, while Rosser was offered by former SU head coach Adrian Autry and his assistants in the summer of 2025.

The EYBL circuit is holding its second spring session this weekend, amid the live period, in Memphis, Tenn. In Team United's first game, a win, Gibson tallied 21 points on 6-of-10 from the field and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.

According to recruiting Web sites, beyond the Orange, his full offer sheet includes schools such as Alabama, Florida State, Indiana, Michigan, N.C. State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Houston, Georgetown, Providence and Seton Hall, among others.
