Syracuse basketball coaches are in regular communication with 2027 four-star wing Markus Kerr from Charlotte, N.C., according to a post on X from Rivals senior national analyst Jamie Shaw.

The 6-foot-7 Kerr, a top-70 national prospect in his class, had a standout 2025-26 season for the powerhouse Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., which competes in the loaded 20-team Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic ("EYBL Scholastic").

Over the years, numerous Brewster players have gone on to suit up for the Orange. In March, word came out that long-time Brewster head coach Jason Smith will serve as the head coach at the new Masters Academy International in Stow, Mass.

It's not clear if the new 'Cuse staff, led by head coach Gerry McNamara, has offered a scholarship to Kerr at this juncture. But, clearly, SU coaches are displaying an interest in Kerr, who is also hearing a lot these days from schools such as West Virginia, Providence, Boston College and Texas A&M, according to Shaw.

Syracuse basketball coaches are ramping up their high school recruiting efforts.

Per recruiting services, Kerr's scholarship offer sheet includes teams like Georgetown, VCU, Boston College, Oklahoma State, Mississippi State, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, Georgia, Arizona State and Xavier, among others.

In 2025-26, Brewster went 30-6 overall and 9-5 in EYBL Scholastic competition, and it was ranked No. 17 around the country by ESPN.

According to MaxPreps, in 2025-26, Kerr averaged 29.2 minutes, 13.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 steals per contest while connecting on 54 percent from the field, 35 percent from beyond the arc and 77 percent from the free-throw line.

In EYBL Scholastic play, Kerr averaged 13.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals per encounter while making 48 percent from the field, 32 percent from long range and 76 percent from the charity stripe.

At Brewster this past season, Kerr played alongside 2028 five-star point guard Michai White and 2028 five-star wing Kevin Wheatley Jr. The former Orange staff, led by head coach Adrian Autry, showed an interest in White, while Wheatley held a 'Cuse offer that arrived last December.

This spring and summer on Nike's EYBL circuit, Kerr is competing for the 17U squad of the Charlotte-based Team United. He is playing alongside, among others, 2027 four-star shooting guard RJ Moore, 2027 five-star combo guard King Gibson and 2027 five-star power forward CJ Rosser.

Moore, in late April, picked up an offer from the new Syracuse basketball staff. Gibson has garnered interest from the former Orange coaching staff, while Rosser was offered by SU last summer.

Late last month, as the grassroots hoops season got underway, the EYBL league held its first spring session in Cartersville, Ga., near Atlanta. Kerr earned praise from national analysts and scouts for his performances in Cartersville, as he averaged 15.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game while hitting on 48.6 percent from the field and 90.9 percent from the free-throw line.

From May 15 to May 17, the EYBL circuit will hold another session, this time in Memphis, Tenn. This weekend's session will transpire during an NCAA-permitted live period, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if the 'Cuse staff is in Memphis to watch Team United, among other groups.
