Luke Fennell, a reserve freshman guard for Syracuse basketball in the 2025-26 season, is entering the transfer portal, according to Mike McAllister of 247Sports.

The portal opened on April 7 and runs for 15 days until April 21. I'm wishing Luke nothing but great success moving forward. Fennell's decision to enter the portal isn't a huge surprise. He was recruited by the former Orange coaching staff, and Fennell didn't play all that much in 2025-26 as a freshman.

The 6-foot-6, 190-pound Fennell, who hails from Melbourne, Australia, appeared in 10 games for the 'Cuse this past term, when Syracuse basketball went 15-17 overall. He averaged 6.5 minutes and 1.1 points per contest.

Fennell came to the Hill as a four-star prospect in the 2025 class. During the 2024-25 season, he competed for the South East Melbourne Phoenix in the National Basketball League ("NBL"), a professional league with teams in Australia and New Zealand.

Last summer, Fennell suited up for Australia in the FIBA U19 World Cup, which took place in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Syracuse basketball is starting to construct its 2026-27 roster.

Amid the transfer portal opening in men's hoops on Tuesday, new Orange head coach Gerry McNamara and his assistant staff are getting right to work on their roster for the 2026-27 campaign.

On Monday, the 'Cuse landed a commitment from European sharpshooter Mark Morano Mahmutovic, who is known for his scoring prowess and long-range capabilities.

In 2025-26, Syracuse basketball had 13 main rotational players. Three have exhausted their collegiate eligibility. Besides Fennell, those who are entering the portal include junior point guard Naithan George, sophomore forward Tyler Betsey, freshman center Tiefing Diawara and freshman wing Aaron Womack III, who took a redshirt this past season.

We're waiting on decisions from five Orange players. They are:
•Sophomore power forward Donnie Freeman
•Redshirt senior small forward Nate Kingz (he would need a waiver from the NCAA to play another season of Division I hoops)
•Freshman forward Sadiq White Jr.
•Freshman guard/wing Kiyan Anthony
•Redshirt sophomore big man Akir Souare
