Syracuse basketball starting point guard Naithan George, a junior who transferred in from Georgia Tech, plans to enter the portal, according to a post on X from 247Sports national analyst Dushawn London.

I'm wishing Naithan nothing but great success moving forward. At this juncture, at least four Orange players from the 2025-26 season plan to enter the transfer portal, which opens on April 7 and runs through April 21.

However, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound George, who hails from Toronto, is the first 'Cuse starter from this past stanza who intends to transfer to another college program. We'll have to see about the rest of the SU roster from 2025-26 in the coming days as the transfer portal prepares to open for business on Tuesday.

George, per 247Sports' national transfer rankings, is rated four stars, No. 50 overall and No. 13 at point guard.

Syracuse basketball will hit the portal hard for a veteran point guard.

Besides George, other Orange players who plan to enter the portal are sophomore forward Tyler Betsey, freshman center Tiefing Diawara and freshman wing Aaron Womack III, who took a redshirt this past term.

As SU went 15-17 in 2025-26, George had an up-and-down season. He had multiple games of at least 20 points scored or double-digits in assists. George also was somewhat turnover prone.

He finished his junior stanza by averaging 10.9 points, 5.4 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 3.1 turnovers per contest while making 40.5 percent from the field, 29.3 percent from beyond the arc and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line.

After the 2025-26 campaign ended, third-year head coach Adrian Autry was let go. Syracuse basketball's new head coach is Gerry McNamara, and his assistant coaching staff is starting to become known, too.

The Orange had 13 main rotational players this past season. Four players plan to enter the portal, and three have exhausted their eligibility. That leaves six guys. They are:
•Sophomore power forward Donnie Freeman
•Redshirt senior small forward Nate Kingz
•Freshman forward Sadiq White Jr.
•Freshman guard/wing Kiyan Anthony
•Redshirt sophomore big man Akir Souare
•Freshman combo guard Luke Fennell

Kingz has said he'd like to return, but he also needs a waiver from the NCAA to play another term of Division I hoops. My gut says that Freeman is leaving. I think Anthony and White are coming back. I honestly have no clue about Souare or Fennell, but if I had to guess, I'd say they're both likely transferring out.

GMac can bring over some players from his former school, Siena. But McNamara and his assistants will also be aggressive in the transfer portal, particularly for a point guard and a center.
