Syracuse basketball assistant coach Arinze Onuaku has been in on Monday for 2028 four-star small forward Billy Stanfield III during an open gym at his high school in the Baltimore area, a source told Inside the Loud House.

While the Orange hasn't extended an official offer to the 6-foot-6.5, 200-pound Stanfield just yet, clearly there is mutual interest. In late August 2025, Stanfield took an unofficial visit to SU to compete in the Orange's Elite Camp, as Inside the Loud House first reported.

A top-100 national prospect, Stanfield attends Calvert Hall College High School in Towson, Md. As a sophomore, he averaged 15.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game at Calvert Hall.

According to his Instagram page, Stanfield's full scholarship offer sheet includes schools such as Villanova, LSU, Oregon, Mississippi State, West Virginia, Southern California, UTEP, Missouri, Texas A&M, TCU, Ole Miss and N.C. State.

This past spring and summer on the AAU circuits, Stanfield was a standout with the 16U squad of the Baltimore-based Team Melo in Nike's EYBL league. In the EYBL circuit's regular season, he averaged 12.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. Stanfield made 40.6 percent from the field, 32.4 percent from beyond the arc and 81.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Last July, at the Nike league's season-ending Peach Jam in North Augusta, S.C., he earned All-Peach Jam third-team honors in the 16U division from the scouting experts at The Circuit. At the annual event, Stanfield averaged 15.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest. He connected on 40.5 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from deep and 83.3 percent from the charity stripe.

Stanfield is a fast-rising junior on a national scale, although I continue to believe that he's underrated. Within the 2028 class, 247Sports places him at No. 83 overall, No. 25 at small forward and No. 2 in Maryland.

At the time of this writing, the Rivals Industry composite ratings system had Stanfield at No. 96 nationally, No. 20 at small forward and No. 2 in Maryland.

To date, Syracuse basketball first-year head coach Gerry McNamara and his staff have offered more than 15 prospects in the 2028 cycle. It would not surprise me at all if the Orange ends up offering Stanfield, too.

Additionally, since the fall recruiting period began last month, 'Cuse coaches have hit the road to watch numerous players in the 2027 and 2028 cycles during open gyms at their respective high schools. Inside the Loud House has first reported on many of these.
